Hi and thanks for the template! I am new to ae cc and i need help!!! when i try to render it shows 218 hours =S i am doing something wrong here!!! Help plz!!!?

Hello,

No problem, I see you messaged me directly so I’m going to respond to that, but if anyone else has difficulty with this, please message me.

=)

Just to clarify, previously when I wrote “Hit ‘n’ while the timeline is selected and it will shorten the work area to 10 seconds.” I should have written 5 seconds, not 10 seconds. Sorry about that!

Here’s a basic one… but important… when I render, it doesn’t seem to be rendering out a video, only the first frame. I’m rendering out, for example, “Module 4”. I have the text entered as we like and think I’m seeing how to customize other parts – thank you for the flexibility BTW – but i can’t do the basic work of rendering out a video, whether it takes a long time or not. What is the correct render procedure.. and is that in the tuts? TY

Just tell me this… if we didn’t add any neon slider changes, and didn’t use any cameras, say for Module 1, should there still be any kind of movement or animation? When I add a camera, for instance, yes, it does move in the render, so I think the rendering itself is OK. I just wasn’t sure at first if, without doing those extras, the default modules are supposed to move or change lighting at all, etc.

No, by default all the modules are set up static. You have to copy and paste the camera and it’s controller layer into the module (step 5) for there to be any motion.

Nothing is animated in the main .aep file, but if you’d prefer, you can work with the demo .aep file which has all the scenes set up, all you would have to do is customize the text, wires and details.

Does that make sense?

Yup! Thanks. I have another issue, i’ll start a sep thread. Nice template!

Hi, i want to buy this project, it’s really awesome. is there any way to light up part of the text? i want each letter to glow separately at the beginning and all glowing at the end.

thank you

ok, thanks a alot!

wich one of the cameras setting will make my camera still after the animation is done, for exemple camera 5, after 3 seconds i want it to hold still or maybe not shake so much. thanks!

Hello, to disable the camera shake go to the module # you are working with, select the ‘Camera Null X” layer and within the Effect Controls panel put all the camera options to 0, that will disable the all the rotation and shake!

If you have any questions about this please let me know!

Hi Thomas! I wanna say congrats on creating such an amazing tool, I am really glad to finally have purchased it! I’m a little new at Adobe After Effects, so I hope I don’t sound incredibly stupid, but for some reason I cannot find the Effect Controls Module. I’ve watched the tutorials and I know they’re supposed to be at the top right next to Projects, but its not there. Is there something I’ve done wrong?

Hello, sometimes the Effects Controls Panel is docked with the Project Panel, so if it’s beside that you can just click and drag it beside the Project Panel.

If you’re not seeing it at all, go to Window>Effect Controls and that will bring it up!

Let me know if that solves the issue!

What is the recommended file format for my logo file?

Hello, I would recommend using a vector format file, so within that category .ai or .eps would work. You can use any logo you like though, I just wouldn’t recommend using a small logo that you would have to scale up.

Really quick question. How to a get the logo part to work? Thanks!

Hello. Are you having trouble with a particular element of getting your logo to work? The basic overview of it is, within the ‘Text X Editor’ comp, enable the ‘Neon Logo Settings’ layer via the eye icon in the left-hand side of the timeline.

The next step is to insert your logo BELOW that layer in the timeline, then simply edit the effect settings of the ‘Neon Logo Settings’ layer in the Effect Controls panel to get the desired opacity of your logo!

If you have any questions about this process, I’m happy to help, just message me back on here or directly at support@thomaskovar.com. Thanks!

Good work !!

Thank you!

Thomas,

First off, great work. This is a tremendous product and your tutorials are done quite well. My question has to do with the different modules. What differentiates the different modules? When opening the projects, they all look the same- of course with the text being text 1, text 2, etc- am I missing something? I would like to be able to know roughly what the differences are so that when I begin working on a specific module, that I have chosen the proper one, based on the desired end result. Am I missing something in the tutorials or the downloaded files?

Thanks in advance for your reply and congrats on a great product.

I have a feeling my custom background may be the culprit. I went back and reverted to the gradient background and it seems to be rendering ok. I will probably take the original background (it’s 4000 X 4000 @ 300dpi) and tile it in photoshop and make it smaller- and see if that works. I have a feeling that’s probably it.

Hi JVN,

Great, I’m glad you found the problem layer – I am almost positive that is your issue. I’ve received that error more than a couple times and it has always been related to an overly-large image or video asset.

Let me know if that solves the issue for sure though, just in case!

TK,

That solved the issue. I am really getting comfortable with editing the project now, and am confident that I can use it to achieve exactly the look I am wanting. Your tutorials are great and I appreciate the follow up.

Not sure why when i render i get low quality, all tho i am rendering on full hd

i dont know why there is always saturation in the final product, please advise

Hello,

Without knowing any other details, I would guess the issue is in your export settings. If you are using a lossy export codec like H.264, you will get much smaller file sizes for your final video, but also lower quality, desaturated results.

The biggest factor for quality is the bit-depth settings, and that varies between codecs and presets. I typically recommend exporting out an H.264 (exporting out of Media Encoder) with the default settings on either the Vimeo 1080 or Youtube 1080 settings. Those are good starting spots, then tweaking from there if more or less quality is needed for the video.

What I personally do for almost all videos is export out an uncompressed version of the render then export out my compressed versions from that uncompressed video. You get much larger file sizes, but I find the workflow optimal for the results you get.

Unless you export out uncompressed, the final video will always look less vivid than in After Effects. It’s always a balance of quality vs file size to get the best results for your video.

If you would like to send me a screenshot of your export settings in AE I can take a look and give you any tips or recommendations, just send them to support@thomaskovar.com!

Exporting by Media encoder did the trick.

I’m having a hard time will the concrete wall, brick wall background. In just gives my gray and white blocks with the letter concrete-wall-the.jpg in it. I’m I doing something wrong.

Thanks

Hello,

It sounds like the some of the assets in the project have missing links, which means they are downloaded onto your computer, but the AE project file has to be shown where they are.

It’s simple to re-link the assets, here are the steps:

- Go to the project panel in After Effects. Within the search bar, type ‘Missing’, and a drop-down will come up where you can select ‘Missing Footage’. These are all the assets are missing in the project.

- Right click on one of the missing assets, go to Replace File> File and locate the file on your computer from within the project download in the ‘Assets’ Folder.

Once you do this, it should re-link all the files that are missing from that same directory.

If there are assets that are missing that are NOT within the ‘Assets’ folder, it is typically because the download from Envato wasn’t completely finished downloading before trying to unzip the file. In that case, re-download the project file by logging into Envato, on the top right select your username, from the drop-down select ‘Downloads’.

If you have any questions at all, please message me back on here or directly at support@thomaskovar.com.

very new to this. what adobe reader do i need to open the neon sign kit?

Hello!

You will need Adobe After Effects to open Neon Sign Kit!

If you have any other questions please let me know!

Is there a way to speed up the render time on this? It is taking about an hour for just an 11 second clip. The machine I am rendering on has 128 GB of ram so I am not sure why it is taking this long to render out. In my other projects it normally renders in real time. 30 second clip takes 30 seconds to render.

Hello,

Absolutely! The first thing you could do is disable the depth-of-field if you have that enabled – that’s a huge render hit.

The second thing you could do is disable the shadows. Shadows in AE are pretty CPU intense, so disabling them will speed up the render times quite a bit.

A third thing you could do is go into the ‘Text X’ composition you are working with and on the layer ‘3DX CONTROLLER: Text 2’, in the Effect Controls panel, lower the ‘Extrude Depth’ lower than 5. You are losing some of the 3D depth of the neons, but it will speed up render times.

You could additionally disable the wires and details to speed up the render times, or disable any scene elements such as the glass or mount. By far, the biggest render hit for the scene elements is the truss scene.

In all of these circumstances, you are dealing with a balance of quality vs render speed. Most projects on Videohive are using simple parallax elements with simple text moves, but to achieve the level of detail Neon Sign Kit offers, there’s no way of getting around a render hit for enabling things like shadows and depth-of-field.

I typically recommend whenever rendering out complex scenes like with Neon Sign Kit to just hit render when you are done working for the day or before you go to bed, and when you get back to work the next day it’s all ready to go!

If there’s anything I can help with, please don’t hesitate to ask. I’d be happy to help render anything with my computer for you as well, just let me know how I can be of help!

Thank you very much I will give these a try.

How do I replace the image in the demo file – Module 2 – neon-sign-kit.tif on your own? Just replace the image, the previous image remains mask, I do not know where it is edited

Hello,

The “Sign Kit” portion of the title is not a free font, that’s why I exported out the text as an image (the sign-kit-text.tif). There is a section in the ‘Readme.rtf’ file that covers all fonts, as well as the font used for the title.

There aren’t masks relating to that layer ‘Sign Kit’ image, are you referring to the ‘Neon” font layers? If so, just hit ‘UU’ on with the text layer highlighted to bring up the mask properties and delete that mask! Make sure to delete the mask on the second instance of the ‘Neon’ Text as well that’s being luma matted.

If there’s anything else I can help with, please let me know!

That is, I can simply delete the layer mask with the font and the text layer and exported without sign-kit picture?

If I simply copy the text layer, and change the font, it will only affect tex, other settings remain the same?

Hello,

Yes, you will need to adjust the wires and details in addition to adjusting the text.

The project comes with video tutorials that go in detail for editing the neons. They should be located in the download within the “Assets” folder, within a folder titled, “Tutorials”. They will walk you through the entire project in detail to adjust the text and edit the wires and details!

Let me know if this helps! If you aren’t seeing the tutorials it may be because the download wasn’t completed before extracting the zip file. In that case, just log in to Videohive and in the downloads section re-download the project file!

Thanks!

Hi Thomas, When i open the aftereffects file I don’t have the same module names as you do. Yours are Module 1, Module 1 Truss, Module 1 truss builder. And mine says Module 1, Module 2, and so on till Module 20. Can you help me? Many thanks!

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out! The module names are the same, it’s just the module 1 Truss, and Module 1 Truss Builder are within the Module 1 composition. Think of compositions as folders, the truss and truss builder are folders within the “Module 1” folder.

I hope this helps. I see you also direct messaged me with some other questions, so I’ll be replying to that email shortly!

I find this to be really slow, and my computer processes things relatively fast. What can I do to fix?

Hi Ryan,

No problem, I included a bunch of features to minimize computing power for elements that you can disable until your final render.

First, I would recommend checkout out the first tutorial within the “Assets” folder, it discusses all the recommended settings for using the product. There I recommend setting the playback resolution to half, disabling the shadows and depth-of-field.

Beyond those settings , you can disable the wires and details if you are not using them.

Finally, there’s an option to enable the ‘Quick Edit Mode’ checkbox and it will completely remove the extruded neons, making playback incredibly fast. This setting is great for testing layouts or camera moves with your neon.

I also want to mention, be sure to disable features you don’t need, like the glass or mount elements. You can always enable them right before rendering. That reminds me, the trusses are the most render-intense element of the product. Unfortunately, there’s no setting to quickly preview those, my recommendation is to solo that element, get the layout how you want it, and then disable it until the final render.

I hope this helps! If you have any questions at all about this or anything else you run into, please feel free to direct message me at support@thomaskovar.com.

Thanks!

Hi Thomas, apologies for being so stupid but I simply cannot find a link to the tutorials. Appreciate it if you can let me know how I get to them please.

Hello! No need to apologize! The tutorials should be within the ‘Assets’ folder of the download, within the folder ‘Tutorials’.

If you are not seeing them in that folder, it may be because the download didn’t completely finish before you unzipped the project file.

Try redownloading the project file by logging in to Videohive, on the top-right click on your username, from the dropdown select ‘Downloads’ and from that page you can redownload the project file.

If this doesn’t work, please reach out to me and we’ll go to plan B.
