Hey. To replace the layer, make sure you hold down the Alt key when you drop the “Message.photo 2” composition on an existing layer.
It is possible please to get a font with emojis inside… it’s not easy to add another layers for emojis
Unfortunately, After Effects doesn’t support colored emoji inside text layers. However, there are some third-party tools, such as AfterEmoji script, that can solve this problem.
Is there a way to change the comps direction so it will fit middle eastern app settings ( Incoming are on the right side, because writing direction is from right to left… )? or at least to add an avatar to the outgoing messages? this would be so helpful…

hello, I just bought this yesterday and it doesn’t work well for me. I type in Hebrew (right to left language) and everything I type is typed the opposite way – like instead of “this” its written like “siht”.
In other projects in my after effects the Hebrew is written just fine.. is there any solution? I have the latest version of ae btw

Hello. There seems to be a change in the latest version of Ae. To make Ae recognize right-to-left languages, you need to select the text layer, then go to the “Paragraph” panel, click on the button with 3 lines and select “Reset Paragraph”. Hopefully, this will fix your issue.

Hey! There is a way to do this. But first, some background info. The 3-dots size is always the same as the size of the message they are displayed for. The size of the message is determined at the first frame of the message layer, so just animating the scale at the moment when the 3-dots disappear won’t work.
So here’s the way, it’s a bit tricky. Animate the scale at the start of a message layer AND at the moment when 3-dots disappear. Set scale to 100% right at the start of a layer and to 200% on the next frame. Then set another keyframe with 200% a frame before the 3-dots disappear and a keyframe with 100% on the frame when they disappear. The 3-dots will be 2 times larger than the message.

Right now you can create these types of messages using a Message.Photo comp. You can create anything you want inside a Message.Photo composition and it will be displayed as a message in the main chat comp. You can also delete all text from the default Message text layer(but leave it visible) and turn off all other default layers inside a Message.Photo comp and use the size of the default bubble layer(which you can change using the “Adjust Text Bubble” effect on the layer) as the size for the whole Message.Photo in the main chat.
I have been doing this as a workaround, it’s just been a bit tricky and time-consuming. Love this template, it’s such an important tool for me.

1. You can just drag and drop a music file to the Project panel in Ae and then drag it to the timeline. Or you can use editing software like Adobe Premiere to add music over a rendered video.
2. SFX are the same as music. You can add sound files directly in Ae as layers or use Adobe Premiere.
3. To change the phone icon go to the “Navigation Bar” composition, then find the “Icons” layer, go to its Contents and find the “Phone” sub-layer. You can delete or disable it and draw other icon using Shape tools. You can also drop your own icon as an image inside the “Navigation Bar” composition.
4. To change the width of messages find the “Global Controller” layer in the main chat comp, then go to the “Effect Controls” panel and find the “Bubble Size” effect. Increase the X value of the effect to increase the width of all messages. You can also change the width individually for each message. To do this select any message, go to “Effect Controls”and change the “Adjust Bubble Size” effect.

This is simple, you just need to change the resolution of the main chat composition. Go to Composition -> Composition Settings and make the comp wider.

Hi. I’ve got 8 message layers, created by ⌘D. Spread them out, replace text, fine. Once I start adjusting the “Send” control on the layers and turn draft mode off, 50 expression errors all over the place. ‘Source Text’ errors, ‘Wipe Center’ errors, ‘txt’ in Class ‘global’ is missing, ‘Anchor Point’ etc. I’ve rebuilt this project 10 times and the same happens if I type over the text, if i paste in new text. What am I missing? Thanks!

I’m using the Instagram chat. The resize feature doesn’t seem to work. When I write a message larger than one line, there is no auto line feed. The text disappears on the right side. Instead of the bubble getting higher, it get wider. It’s the same problem in the writing field.
Hello! Auto line feed isn’t supported in this item, you have to manually input a new line symbol(press Enter) where you want the line to brake.
The script is fantastic, my only problem with it is the animation is abrupt to my taste when the messages come in, is there a way to smooth it without breaking it ? One good inspiration is the ease and whizz script (the expo) is very smooth and it would work better than what you have now, is there any plans to improve this ?
Hello! All animation in this project is created via expressions, and unlike keyframes, expressions don’t have a function to freely control easing of the animation. Expressions only provide linear and standard ease function, which is used in this project.
Although there are some complicated ways to achieve easing similar to keyframes, this will increase the lag even more and the goal of this item from the start was to replicate how real messengers look, so I don’t think I’ll be adding this feature in the future.
Hi. I’m having an issue with the template. The typing animation works fine, but the loading icon (the three dots) never show up on incoming messages. How can I enable that?
I also would like to know how to change the “typing…” text on the WhatsApp template please.
Hello. There can be many reasons. Here are some suggestions:
1. Make sure you moved the Send marker from the start of the Message layer. The 3 dots will be displayed in time between the in-point of the layer and the Send marker.
2. Maybe you’re using the WhatsApp preset? It never displays 3-dots animation, only “typing…” message appears at the top.
3. Global Controller layer(in “0_Universal Messenger.aep”) has an effect named “Show 3-dots animation”. Maybe you turned that off?
I was using the WhatsApp present so it makes sense. How can I change “typing…” to something else?
Go to the “Navigation Bar” comp, find a text layer named “online”, go to its “Source Text” property. The property has a small expression, in the second line of the expression you can change the word ‘typing…’ to something else.
Or you can just disable the “online” layer and place your own layer instead.

This is a cool project but man, I just have 3 messages and it’s so slow to do anything. Ryzen 5900X, 64GB Ram, 3090 RTX. Even in Draft mode it’s just totally impossible to do anything. I’m so bummed because I needed to knock something out quickly for a client and had to tell them I couldn’t do it in time.
Hello. I’m sorry you had such experience with the project. With only 3 messages the project should work basically in real time, and only with the number of messages over 6 there should be a noticeable drop in performance.

Hello. Sounds like a problem with cache in Ae. 1. Simply restarting Ae may fix the problem. 2. Try Edit -> Purge -> All Memory & Disk Cache.
If that didn’t help, then answer these questions: Are there any expression errors in your project? Does the problem exists only in one project or in all projects from this item?
I’ve done both steps but no luck yet. The project does not want to work with me. Composition window stays blank for minutes and then finally a preview appears. I’m running a fully spec’d Macbook Pro 16 inch, there shouldn’t be any issues. I’ve also tried draft mode and the other steps in the guide. I just want it to work smoothly! It’s driving me crazy.
Maybe you have the “Cache before preview” option enabled in the Preview panel?
Also please tell me, is this problem only exists in that particular project or in all projects from this item? Does the preview work normally in your other projects?
If you have lots of messages in your composition, then the preview may take awhile. This doesn’t really change depending on your specs, that’s just a limitation of Ae, which can’t process lots of expressions fast. But you still should be able too see the animation while it’s caching.
Hi Quis, thank you for getting back to me. Cache before preview is turned off. I’ve completely reinstalled AE to see if my AE was causing problems. Problem still persists while other projects work smooth. I haven’t even added my own messages yet, it’s still in the start phase, nothing has been done to the project.
Seems like there’s still a lot to research. It’ll be better if we move to email. Can you please send me a screen capture of what is happening in your After Effects?
First, do Edit -> Purge -> All Memory & Disk Cache, then close Ae. Record the process of opening Ae and the project, and then starting a preview process. Don’t need to wait until the animation starts, just 10 sec. will be enough.

Is it possible to change the color of a messaging bubble in the whatsapp template? There isn’t a color-effect in the global controller like in the universal messenger template. thx
Hello. You can change it if in the project you go to 4_[X] folder -> [X]Bubbles.Shape comp -> Bubbles layer -> Bubble -> and there are two fills, “Fill Green” the right and “Fill White” for the left messages, which you can change.
HI, is it compatible with Arabic Language
Hi, you can write messages in Arabic, but this project doesn’t have an Arabic keyboard, so there will be no typing animation.
I want to use the Text Keyboard + English keyboard so you see the person typing out their message but then I want to make the Text Keyboard + English keyboard slide down so that you see the messages full screen or vice versa. I am also doing this in a group chat. Not sure if that makes any difference. Hope to hear from you soon! Thank you!
Hello. You can do that with the “Adjust Position” controller on the “Keyboard.English” layer. Just animate the Y value and the keyboard will slide down.
Thank you for your quick response. That worked. How do I go about changing the keyboard to “dark mode”?
You can do that only by manually going through every sub-layer of the Keyboard shape layer and changing the color of the Fill parameter to “dark” for each of the sub-layers.
Perfect. Last question (hopefully). Now that I’ve converted it into dark mode I’m having trouble keeping the text message WHITE in the Text Base while the fill is BLACK. So while the text message is animating in the Keyboard.English, you can’t see anything because it’s black but you can see it after the message has been sent. I’m also trying to get rid of the stroke surrounding the Text Base box and only keeping it in the rounded rectangular path where the text message is being written in. Hope to hear from you soon!

Ok one last question, how do you toggle off the “Zoomed in” letters while the Keyboard.English is animating the text message? I’m trying to animate a text deletion but in order to do that, I need to toggle the zooming off so I can have that clean and time remap or time reverse the rendered clip.
Are talking about typing on the keyboard? If so, there is a toggle “Type Effect” on the keyboard layer, turn it off and there’ll be no keypresses on the keyboard.

Hello. This template doesn’t have prebuilt voice messages, but you can use Photo Messages to create them yourself. You can place your voice message animation inside a Photo.Message comp.

Is there the little notification inside the conversation like “John Doe has just been added to the conversation”?
Videos are same as pictures, you just replace the Media layer inside a Photo Message comp. You can see how it works in the tutorial in the Photo.Message part.
There is no prebuilt notification like that, but you can either use a Photo Message for that or you can create a distance between two messages with the “Adjust Distance” controller and then place the notification inside that created space.

Hello. If you see messages appear in Ae comp and you’ve set the render area which includes these messages, then they should be visible in the rendered video. If you won’t find a solution to this, send me your project for review. My email: denis.quis@gmail.com
You can uncheck both, AM and PM, on the effects panel and the time format will disappear. Hours can be set from 0 to 23.

How to assign the sounds to the keystrokes? I don’t think you can get the sounds to match the animation. How is the Sounds feature intended?
Hello. This item doesn’t have specific sound feature which can add sfx. It only has links to the sounds used in the preview video(in hello.pdf). You can download them and add them manually in Ae or other editing program.
