Render speed is not really dependent on your specifications in this situation, because Ae doesn’t fully load the CPU when calculating lots of expressions. All actions that, as I’ve found, can improve your performance are described in the help file(“Hello.pdf”), although they still won’t make your render super fast.

Just like in a real messenger, 3-dots only show up when “the other person” types a message, and when “you” type a message, it’s being typed on the keyboard instead. If you want outgoing messages to have 3-dots as well, then the only way would be to create the animation and place it on the right side manually.

Hi. The Media layer can be a file or a composition, it’s not much of a difference in Ae and you can replace both. Make sure you follow this instructions:

1. Before dragging and dropping, make sure you’ve selected the layer that you want to replace on a timeline.

2. Hold the Alt key and then drag and drop the new source file on the layer.

Hi. Which controller did you use to adjust position? If you’ll use the “Distance from Edges” effect on the “Global Controller” layer, then all messages should move with their avatars.

If you’ve used individual controls like the “Adjust Distance” effects on messages, then yes, avatars won’t move with messages in horizontal direction. I think I had to include this limitation because this feature would’ve conflicted with other effects on a message and its a very rare situation when you need only one message to be shifted horizontally. It’s better to use the global “Distance from Edges” effect.

Hello. Unfortunately, Ae has this limitation that when an expression is applied to the Source Text property of a Text layer, you can only change formatting for the entire text. All messages have an expression on the Source Text which is required to add names over messages and for the “3-dots-animation” feature. If you don’t need these features you can simply disable the expression on the Source Text property for the selected message and formatting will work normally.

But if you do need those features, then the only way is to put another text layer with the same text but without expressions on top of the message. Follow this steps:

1. Disable the “[X] CC Composite” effect on the message.

2. Create a new Text layer with the same text, then format it, place it on top of the bubble and parent it to the message.

3. If required, adjust the bubble using the “Adjust Bubble Size” effect.

Hello! Yes, this project can be used with any font that is available inside After Effects, including Korean fonts. You can do this in a number of ways:

1. Remove all text from the Message layer with the name, but don’t delete or turn off the layer, then go to Bubble.Message > Bubble Text > Transform and set the Opacity to 0. After that you can also adjust the position of the name.

2. Turn off the Message layer, create a new text layer with the name and place it where the name should be. Then go back to the main composition, select the Photo.Message and use the “Adjust Distance” effect to push the message down a bit so that the name is visible.

Hi! I really wanted to add this feature, but, unfortunately, this is completely impossible inside Ae. The problem is that we need to change the text based on its size, which itself changes the size. So we’re tying to change what’s being measured and that creates internal conflicts inside expressions. Ae expressions don’t have any memory, unfortunately, so they can’t measure something that doesn’t exist at the moment, and that, in our case, is the state of the text layer before adding new line breaks.

But changing the color of checks from grey to blue is not available right now. Hello! It should work fine with the German Ae. Make sure you use the Ctrl+D/Cmd+D shortcut to duplicate messages. Copying and pasting with Ctrl-C-Ctrl-V isn’t working properly for this project.

Can’t say for sure what’s the difference. Actually, there shouldn’t be any and I guess it’s some kind of a bug. When using Ctrl-C Ae just decides to reset parameters of the effects that point to other layers. But it doesn’t happen when you use Ctrl+D. It’s a good habit to always use Ctrl+D to duplicate layers, it’s faster and it always works as expected.

“I fully understand what you’re talking about, but, unfortunately, there is no efficient way of fixing that performance problem. On a small number of messages(3-5) the project works pretty fast, but as you add more messages, the render time increases with each message. All because this project is built on expressions, which cost render time. Expressions make this project highly customisable and almost fully automatic, but they also the reason of slowing down. You can’t have one without another.

Try using the performance tips described in the help file(«Hello.pdf»). They won’t make your workflow real-time, but they will surely increase performance.

And the last thing. Although, it won’t fix the problem, but If in your situation you won’t find this project useful because of the render times, you can always request a refund.

Hello! Use scale to increase the size of a message instead of changing the size of a font. This way the time stamp will keep its size relative to the text.

As of the width, just to be clear, you can adjust it using the “Adjust Bubble Size” effect.
