Very good job!
uhm, is it me or is not working anymore in CC 2019?
I have been working very intensively on a job. I will check this out
Just tried it today and it works like a charm with AE 2024. It’s such a great tool, I’ll be forever grateful
Glad to hear that, gasta. Thanks for the feedback.
cool template
Pretty awesome I should say. Good job!
Hi, I’m new to this and was wondering if I could use the halftone as a vignette and how? Can I adjust the layers so that the dots are only on the sides leaving my middle clean? Thanks!
Hi Splice Trade…
It’s not specifically built into the template, but there’s no reason why you can’t do it. Once you’ve applied the Halftone Dots effect, just drop your original footage on top and apply a feathered circular or oval shaped mask to the layer. That will give you the vignette effect you’re after.

I’m really satisfied with this, thumbs up!
Thanks, Amarufilm. I’m glad you like it.
Hello. Are there any way to make the raster more detailed than “dot size 0”? Cheers.
Unfortunately, dot size 0 is the practical minimum limit for the technique used in this project and also the limit where the dots start to blend together because of that other raster grid – the pixels!.
If you don’t need full HD, then the easiest way would be to use the 1920×1080 project file and size it down to the size you require. This will effectively give you more dot resolution (smaller dots).
Alternatively, you can go into the composition generate dots. There’s an effect on the single layer in that comp, called CC Ball Action. If you turn off the expression on the Grid Spacing property (click the little equals sign under the red value so that the equals sign has a little dash through it and the value turns yellow ) and put the value 1.5 into this property. Then change the value of Ball Size to 21, you should have smaller dots. You’ll have to play around with the other parameters on the CONTROLLER layer in ! MAIN to get it to look nice. Note that since you are now manually setting the dot size, the Dot Size slider on the layer CONTROLLER will no longer work.
In general, beware! – when the dots get really small like that, they get much harder to control – the controls become much more delicate. That’s largely why I set the minimum size how I did!
Good luck.

Quick question before I purchase, the footage I intend to use it on is chroma-keyed green screen video. Would applying this filter add any halftone pattern to the keyed out part of the footage? I’ve seen other plugins/presets act similarly before, want to make sure it’s not the case with this.
Thanks. Looks great!
Off the top of my head, Tony – I can’t remember.
I didn’t really design it for transparency, because as a faithful copy of a print process, it can’t really take account of that. For instance, if you use transparency, are the spaces between the dots transparent too or do we simply respect the original alpha?
However, halftone patterns are fundamentally blank where there’s no color, so you could composite your footage over white and there won’t be any halftone dots in that area. Then you could composite the halftoned footage using the screen blending mode or you could apply the original alpha to the halftone footage.
Once I get a chance to open the project and have a look at it, I’ll be able to give you a more concrete answer.
Best, f.
Hi,
When I open the color version, After Effect asked me to convert it in order to use it. After that I couldn’t find those color layers you told in the tutorial
Any suggestion ?
Hi Vhabui,
Thanks for purchasing.
The convertion message is normal if you’re using a newer version of After Effects than the one used to create the file. Don’t worry, it doesn’t change anything fundamentally.
I’m not entirely sure which color layers you’re talking about – presumably the layers MAIN C, MAIN M, MAIN Y and MAIN K – and they will be visible as soon as you open the project – layers 3,4,5 and 6 in the compostion ! MAIN.
Could it be that you’ve opened up the black and white version instead of the color version? There is a color and a black and white version of Halftone Dots. If you opened the black and white version, those layers won’t be there.
If you want more help, please drop me a line via my profile page.

Very good result. Just what I have been looking for. In the Color-Version at 1920 it’s S l o o o o o w. But working. Thanks.
Hi Hmpffff.
Glad you like the results. It isn’t the quickest effect to apply (although hopefully manageable). Unfortunately, breaking a picture down into millions of halftone dots takes quite a lot of processing power. There’s not a lot I can do about that.
Hi felt_tips,
I just wanted to inform those people with really no endurance at all. For me it’s exactly what I was looking for.
As a semi-amateur AE user I even figured out the way to produce more dots. So: happiness everywhere!
I don’t know how will I use this AE preset, but I bet I will.
I like
Thanks. guys! Your feedback is always appreciated, especially when it’s so nice.

Great file as always.
Nice work Felt
Very nice fx without plugin, thanks for sharing.
Superb, Simply the best effect, best wishes
Awesome preset!
