Hello, I have re-downloaded most current version of a Neon Sign Kit but have noticed that custom glow settings don’t work. In older version of the Kit I was able to adjust glow intensity and radius by enabling those settings. Now when I do that in a new version it is like those settings are dead. I do the exact same thing as in old version yet the glow settings can not be adjusted. Can you help me with this please? Thank you.

Hello. Thanks for pointing this out to me! I just double checked and you are correct, the latest update disabled the custom settings.

I’ll get the project file updated first thing tomorrow morning, so it should be live with v2-5 tomorrow afternoon. Thanks!

Hello. I’ve updated the project file so the custom glow settings are working again. You can re-download the project file by going to your Downloads section. If you have any questions please let me know!

Hi Thomas, how to project more light on the background from the logo? Bulb glow fine tune seems to help. I’d like the background to be lit by the logo. Thank you!

Hello. No problem, could you send screenshots to support@thomaskovar.com, that way I can get a much better idea of what the issue(s) could be!

Hi Thomas,

First off, this is an excellent kit! Kudos on all the detail you’ve put into it and the amazing tutorials.

Second, I have a really noob-ish question! I’ve made some neon text and also a logo in module 1. When I look at the rendered view, the text is on top of the logo and I want to be able to lower the logo so that it is just beneath the text. I’ve been clicking through compositions for an hour now and can’t seem to find the one I need to move the position of in order to arrange them the way I want.

Thanks!

No problem! You can easily pull back the Tube Refraction Opacity and Tube Highlight Brightness via the Neon Controller. Just turn those options down and that should do the trick! Here’s the part in the tutorial that goes over that: https://youtu.be/xARLlTgGuUI?t=38m3s

Thank you, that helped :) I have another issue pertaining to trying to use strokes in shape layers in the module text composition. When I view the rendered scene, the lines appear doubled (even though it is definitely just a single stroke). Including a picture so that you can see what I’m talking about:

A line that I draw directly in AE seems to fare slightly better, but I’d like to be able to use more complex paths that I create in AI.

Thanks!

Hello. Happy to help – can you send me more screenshots to support@thomaskovar.com with the before and after? I just want to be sure the source looks how I think it does before giving advice!

A classic style work with a nice flow

Excellent !!!

Thank you!

Hi! This is my first time using After Effects. I am working with the Fog Template and I’m going through your great tutorial. It’s really easy to follow. I’m getting tripped up on the caps. I managed to construct the ties and the details with no problems and I can see those when I preview it all in Module Construct – Fog. But the caps are missing when I go to Module Construct. At first I thought they were hiding behind the neons and I nudged them all outwards a bit but they are definitely not showing up. Please let me know what I am missing as I am new to this all. Thanks in advance and I will tackle the wires in the meantime :) Adama

Hello. Double check that on the ‘Neon Controller’ layer, in the Effect Controls panel, that you have ‘Enable Caps’ enabled.

Also, if you adjusted the z-position of the caps, you may have accidentally pushed them behind the wall. Try adjusting the z-position forward and that may solve the issue.

If neither of those two work, please send screenshots to support@thomaskovar.com and I’ll be able to get a better look at what the issue is!

Hi Thomas, thanks so much for your super-fast reply! I don’t see ‘Enable Caps’ anywhere on the Effects Controls panel with the Neon Controller layer selected. I’m a newbie so I most likely missing this. Also I have no idea if I have adjusted the z-position, I’m clueless on that point. I will email you a couple of screenshots of what I am looking at. Thanks again! Adama

Thanks for an amazing app! I wonder why my Cups always turn to be behind the bulb in the final results. Looks good in the cup window. I follow exactly your tutorial but still they’re behind the light in the final result (paid download) best/Edda

Hi Edda. That’s an easy edit, I debated if it made more sense to have the caps in front or behind the neon. If you’d like the caps to be in front of the bulb, just go into the comp ‘Module X Neons’ (X being the module number you’re working with) and drag layer 4 ‘Module X Caps Construct’ above the ‘Module X Neon Base’ layers, so it’s now layer 2. I’d also recommend adjusting the z-position to -12, just to ensure it’s not intersecting with the neon.

Give that a try and let me know if that’s what you’re looking for!

What a great product, professional quality result and a video tutorial that exceeds expectations. The kit is only surpassed by the excellent customer service and promptness of replies to any and all questions by the author, Thomas. Thank you!

Looks awesome! :)

Thank you!

Thanks for the theme, however I have a nice smooth logo EPS, but I’m finding the theme is making the lines of my logo a bit uneven and not as smooth and rounded as it actually is in the file…..seems to be with the stroke path…. can you assist?

Hello, can you send me screenshots to support@thomaskovar.com. It’s most likely from the extruding of the neon which can be removed. I’ll be happy to take a look and give you any pointers to get it as crips as possible.

mmm..amazing work ;)

Thank you!

Hi, is it easy to turn disable the bg? ie transparent bg for alpha channel rendering?

Hello, although it is possible, it’s not supported. The issue that comes up is the blend modes needed for the final result and the background layers, the glows won’t look quite as polished exported out with an alpha channel as they do with a background in AE.

If you have any specific questions or want to discuss it further, feel free to message me at support@thomaskovar.com!

makes sense thanks Thomas

EXCELLENT Product! from all the products I’ve been buying here, this is the best product I could ever bought. Amazingly done and above all, the tutorial video is magnificent ! We all know that this products are sometimes very hard to work with and there´s never an explanation. This author and product are unique! Congrats on your work and for caring for the ones getting your product! THANK YOU

Hello! Awesome project! I’m attempting to work with a logo but when selecting the primary color then moving on to the construct part, it doesn’t seem to have picked up the entire outline. So it has some parts outlined but not all. The primary Can you help?

Hello,

No problem, can you send screenshots to support@thomaskovar.com and I’lll take a look!

Hi There, I love this template. Thanks so much!

I was just wondering how to remove the shadow that automatically covers the background? I am inserting a custom background and need the colour to be exact – but I can’t achieve this with the shadow overlay.

I’ve watched most of the tutorials but can’t seem to remember this part. Feel free to just direct me to the correct part in the tutorials to find out.

Thanks again!

Hello,

Great, I’m glad you are enjoying it!

I’m not sure if you mean the faux shadows, or the color correction and vignette layers affecting the color of the background.

If it’s the faux shadows, what you can do is enable the ‘Real Shadows’ on the Scene Controller layer, then disable the lights via the visibility toggle (the eye icon to the left of the layer in the timeline panel). You’ll need to disable shy layers as well to see the light layers.

Alternatively, you could go into the Background comp in within the main module comp, and then go into the Front comp, and within that comp the faux shadows layer. Just disable that and it will disable the faux shadows.

If it’s the color correction layer, turn that off as well using the visibility toggle, and turn off the vignette by enabling the ‘Disable Vignette’ checkbox in the Neon Controller layer.

If you have any question at all, please feel free to message me at support@thomaskovar.com and I can go over any of these steps in more detail!

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for getting back to me.

It was the color correction and vignette I was talking about. I’ve disable both of those (or enable the Disable Vignetter and toggled off the eye icon for CC) and that’s helped, but there still seems to be a darker shade over the whole background. Can you think of anything else it might be?

Thanks again!

No problem! It’s most likely the lights, try disabling the lights and see if that does the trick.

Hello ! Thank you for such an amazing work ! I’m creating my own neon signs thanks to your template, but I encounter a little problem. I would like the background to be a wall I created by myself. Is it possible to use a customised wall instead of the wood/bricks wall already available in the project. If it’s possible, how can I change it? Thank you in advance !

Hello! Thank you very much! Yes, it’s absolutely possible – here’s the part in the tutorial where it discusses exactly what you’re trying to do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xARLlTgGuUI&t=44m29s
