Nice work! Great to see a long version countdown – your work is well organized. I realize the morph is a prerender – maybe consider building a long version countdown that does not need a prerendered morph so we can change fonts?

Thanks for your kind words. I’m definitely interested in allowing custom fonts, though I haven’t found a good way to do it so far. For this template I converted the numbers to curves and manually animated them, sometimes breaking the numbers down into different pieces. That’s not a process I can automate. I might be able to do something more generic with custom fonts.

There has been a lot of interest in other fonts, so I could also update this at some point to include more font options (as in I would animate more fonts and let the user switch between those). Are there any fonts you’re interested in using specifically?

Hey man! I’m not a user of the Creative Cloud and have bought/downloaded “Enzo Pro Light” since I couldn’t find the “Enzo OT Light” anywhere (there is a STD version as well, just no OT version anywhere) Do you know where I can buy/get this font in order to make the timer work? Thank you so much!

The numbers are pre-rendered. The only thing you’ll need the font for is the hr/min/sec dividers. Inside the project go to “under the hood>elements>morphs”. There are 3 precomps called “divider – ” and then hr/min/sec. If your version of Enzo doesn’t match well enough, send me an email and I can send you a version where the text is all flattened to shapes.

how do i use this?

Take a look at the instructions video included in the project zip. CountdownMorph_Instructions.mp4. That covers most of what you’ll need to know and walks through the project. Is there something you’re looking to do that’s not covered in the video?

How do I get this to work on Windows? There’s nothing to indicate that this is Mac only and that you need to have video editing software

It will work on Windows. You need After Effects CS5 or newer, which will run on either system.

Hey there, I’m trying to find a countdown to use in my workout videos and this is the first one I’m seeing that’s stylish yet subtle. Thing I haven’t figured out yet is the license part: Once I have bought this countdown can I use it in all my videos or would I have to buy one every time I want to post a video with a countdown? Thanks a lot for answering.

As far as I know, Video Hive only has single-project licenses. Technically you would need to re-license it for each new project. You may want to double check the specifics of that with someone in the Help Center. They may have more insight than I do.

Hello is there any way that you can make the font for the numbers thicker or bold?

The numbers are pre-rendered so you can’t directly change the font. If you want to make them thicker you could try applying a “Stroke” Layer Style to the numbers. Send me an email if you need any help setting that up.

If you could help with that it would be GREAT!

Hi, I want to thank you for creating an amazing product! I just have one doubt, what font do you use?

The font is Enzo. It’s one of the fonts available with Creative Cloud so if you have that, you can get the font.

Is it possible to edit it to an 3 hrs Countdown… thats what i need :( thank you very much

Yes. Email me and I can send you a 3hr version.

hey man, love the format, but I have a black box sitting over the timer, pleas advise how to remove.

I just purchased this item. I am not an AE expert but I have been able to figure out how to make all the changes that I want, except two. First, how do I get rid of the background completely….I want my timer on top of a transparent background. Lastly, how do I change the actual font used on the timer? Thanks!

I sent you an email with your answers. You can render a transparent background. The numbers font can’t be changed, but the hours/minutes/seconds can.

Perfect project! I wish you only big sales! ;)

Hi! I’m considering buying this, but I have a question:

Is it possible to change the “min” and the “sec” text? (because I need to translate them to a different language) Or is it going to mess up the design?

They’re in their own precomps, so you could replace them with different text, a symbol, a picture of a cymbal, whatever you want.

In the project you’ll want to go to the “under the hood” folder, then “elements” and “morph.” There are three comps “divider – hr” “divider – min” and “divider – sec.” Change those to whatever you like and that will update the text everywhere else.

When I bought this I misread it and thought it was NOT for AE. I’m using FinalCutProX, is there a way to get this in a format that will be able to be used there?

I only have the project built for After Effects. Your best option is to get the trial of After Effects and render out what you need. If you use a transparent background and render to ProRes4444, you can take that into FCP and place it over any background you want. I can help you with that process if needed.

I assume it’s possible to export with a transparent background in full HD. Could you briefly explain how we can do that? Thanks!

Yes. If you hide the background layer, you can export with a transparent background. Make sure to export to a format with an alpha channel (PNG, Quicktime Animation, ProRes 4444, Cineform, etc).

Just go into the comp you want to render and disable the background layer (click the eyeball on the far left). You will also probably want to disable the “Dark Shading” layer, and possibly “Numbers Box.”

The shading layer darkens the background, which you might not want if you’re doing the background composite externally.

The Numbers Box puts a white box behind the numbers so they’re easier to read. You may or may not want to include that depending on your needs.

Thanks so much for that helpful explanation. I’m still very new to After Effects, but hopefully, I’ll work out how to export in the correct format. But at least I know which elements to hide. By the way, really impressive countdown timer and template. You’ve pretty much thought of everything! :-)

great but I’m not savvy in software. Would you have a 1 hour countdown in MPEG format? This way I can crop it in the editing software based on the time I need. Thank you.

Thank you for the response. I bought it but could only find the seconds count down as an MPEG. So I imported them into my editing software and it took some time (I needed a 10 minute countdown). I don’t have the knowledge to use that. If you have a 10minute countdown that I could download that would be great. Where do I email you? I just purchased this weekend and do you have the purchase number or do I need to provide it to you.

theropodfx@gmail.com

10 minutes won’t be too bad. I’ll render that out and send it to you once I get your email.

The clips you found are used by Adobe After Effects to create the video. They won’t do a lot of good on their own. If you don’t have After Effects, I’ll definitely need to send you a file.

Thank you. My e-mail is zivsim@hotmail.com

amazing animation!

Hello TheropodFX, would this work on AE SC6?

Thx-a-lot in advance=).

Hello TheropodFX, I purchased your template, but somehow it won’t work (total AE noob). Problem is, AE tells me that the files ”...sec01s-10sec.mov” and the other .mov file are damaged. I’m not able to run the videos on my windows laptop from the downloaded folder either (my mac manages to convert the .movs and plays them). Since AE is on a windows laptop, I need the files to work there. Can you help me out here?

Greetings Rod

Problem solved =)

The files use PNG compression which should read in Windows. Since they’re giving you problems, you’ll probably need files in a new format. I can make you new files in a couple hours if needed. If you want to try converting it yourself, make sure to use a format that supports transparency. QuickTime animation or JPEG 2000 would work. PNG in an image sequence could also work for you. Send me a direct email if you’re still having trouble or just want me to convert the files.

Hi guys,

Is it possible to make the countdown from 3 hours?

Thanks!

The project was designed for countdowns up to one hour. You can achieve longer countdowns if you’re comfortable with digging into the internal workings. The hours digit moves by time remapping the pre-rendered ten second countdown. You’d need to add in new key frames to go from 3 to 2 and 2 to 1. The other numbers can just be repeated. Send me a direct email and we’ll work out out.

how to change the font? Thanks. Great work.

The numbers are hand animated and pre-rendered, so those are locked into the font they were designed with (Enzo OT Light).

The hours minutes and seconds dividers can be changed. They’re in individual pre comps here: under the hood/elements/morphs. The comps are called “divider” followed by hr min or sec.
