Hello, this is an amazing file. But I am getting abit of an error. This may be as I am new to AE. When I use a different camera angle the sign follows the camera but the neon part stays in the middle of the scene making a double effect. What Have I done wrong?

Hello,

Sorry you are having an issue! I cannot think off the top of my head what could be causing this, but we’ll get it figured out.

I’m not exactly sure what you mean by the sign following but the neon part not – it sounds like you have the main neon layer 3D disabled, but I would need to see the problem to be able to provide a definite solution.

Would you be able to send screenshots to my email, kovar.thomas@gmail.com

Thanks!

Yes not a problem, i will send them over after work, i have pressed a button somewhere along the line I would say. Thanks for your fast response

Another great work ! GLWS

Thank you!

Great Output….

Thank you!

Hi Thomas, First of all, so fantastic project and very very useful. I only have one question and that when the lights in the neon is out. They still seam to shine a little bit thru a outline. Where is the controller for that? I’m trying to make a comp where the scene is almost black and then from nowhere just lights up from the neon, do you have any tips for me?

Thank you so much, /Pelle

Hi Pelle,

Thank you very much, I’m glad you are liking the project so much!

What I would recommend, as the quick solution, is to put the “Simple Neon Animator” to a negative value, like -10. That makes it quite a bit darker than just setting at 0.

If that doesn’t work, I would recommend animating the bevel adjustment on the ’Neon Controller” on and off, that seems to help a little as well

Finally, if the neon is still too bright, I would recommend adjusting the 3DX adjustment layer found within the neon pre comps. I don’t have a specific recommended setting though, as turning the neon to a negative value seems to do the trick for me most of the time.

If you have any other questions, please message me anytime!

Very professional !!!

Thank you!

Hello, Is it compatible with Photoshop, would I be able to export as layers to Photoshop, for digital and print?

Hello,

Yes, you could! I have actually done it for a few freelance projects.

The difficult aspect is the glowing – glowing doesn’t translate well in image form if you are trying to separate it, because it effects the layers behind it via blend modes.

If you are trying to export the neons separately via a transparent layer to go over an element, that’s mainly where it gets tricky. If you are just setting up the scene though and exporting it out into Photoshop, then it’s pretty simple (given you know the basics of AE).

If you have any other questions, please let me know!

Thank you!

Could you motion track a scene to make it appear as if the neon sign was actually there?

Yes, you definitely could – the neons are fully editable in 3D. You would need to customize some of the compositions to make it work with footage though, such as getting the shadows and glow to overlay on your footage rather than on the setup I created.

I would recommend your skill level in AE to be advanced for this technique though, as motion tracking objects into scenes requires a lot of technical skill to look realistic – proper depth of field, lighting, color correction, glow level, etc – but as I said, it can be done!

Its just perfect Man!!!!, Awesome work!

Thank you!

I cannot open any of the projects…I am using a PC with After effects 6 and I am getting an error message saying this was created with a newer version and on a mac which won’t allow me to open the files. please help! -Brad

Hi Brad,

I’m really sorry, but Neon Sign Kit does not support AE 6, the version history only saves back to CS5.5.

I think you’ll find most products on Videohive do not support AE 6, that is 7 versions behind the current version and most projects only support back to CS4 (version 9).

If you have any other questions or there’s anything I can help you out with, just ask!

Where can I find the tutorial for this Neon Sign Kit?

Hello,

Within your downloaded project file, the video tutorials are within the folder /Assets/Tutorials/.

Thanks!

My Assests folder is completely empty.

Hello,

That sounds like an error in the download. I’ve had users message me about this happening once in a while, so I’m really sorry that it was missing – I would be upset about it if it were me, so I apologize.

What seems to work is just to re-download the project file from Videohive. Log in, on the top right click on your username, then from the dropdown select “Downloads” and there is a download button to re-download any projects you’ve purchased from Videohive.

Be sure the zip file is completely done downloading before expanding it, I think most issues from missing assets comes from the zipped file not being fully downloaded before extraction – either by error or more likely by a connection issue where the download stalls or the download is interrupted.

Try that out and let me know if it solves the issue!

Hey Thomas! Quick question, I am trying to extend your project comps to a much longer length and the only thing not extending is the shadows… Any idea how to extend the shadows from the original project length out to 1350 frames? Thanks SO much!

Thanks for the quick reply! I clicked through every comp I could find to extend everything. Here is in the original length of the project where it all still works: http://cl.ly/e2W0 and later on: http://cl.ly/e3K3

Hey Thomas! 3DX Side Index 0 it was! All fixed, thank you!

Great, after seeing your screenshots I could tell it was isolated to the text, so I’m glad that worked for you!

Anything else you need, just ask!

Awesome project! Professional, clean and love that touch of old-school look! Keep it up!
