Hi – just purchased and I really like it so far. I have 2 questions – 1. Are there any updates or additional features available for mouth movement/lipsync etc? And while I know you can customize your own characters, is there a way to replace something with a completely different asset and use that as part of the animation—ie: let’s say I wanted to put a picture of my actual face on a character – will it allow you to have that in place of the template head so that it stays tracked with the body and movements?

Hi, thank you for reaching out to us! I am glad that you really like the product! :)

Regarding your questions:

1. As for the mouth, there aren’t any new updates regarding lipsync etc. Right now, there are 2 sliders which will allow you to modify the vertical and horizontal size of it. Basically you can make it bigger vertically for a laugh for instance, or flip it for a sad face, etc. You can also keyframe these values to open and close the mouth to make it talk.

We intended this toolkit to be quite simple to use, both in terms of performance, and usability. So there is a limit to what can be included to keep it working well even on lower end computers. We than have another toolkit that is a bit more advanced that also requires more PC power, which has a whole mouth rig and lip syncing. Should you be interested in that one it is named: Character Animation Explainer Toolkit.

2. Regarding Customization of the characters. Yes this is possible. You can simply add your own custom designs and they will be animated automatically with the rig and animation presets.

We have actually made a tutorial video that goes through this process. It is: Help Video – Extras – Importing Custom Characters, and should be available with your downloaded files.

Hope this is of help to you. Let me know should you need any further help! :)

Thanks, Stephan

If I created my own character, can I use my own body/clothing and, at the same time, use your head with lip sync and animations?

Hi, thank you for reaching out to us! Yes of course! You can use your own body, you simply need to drag and drop your image files in their locations, than you can build up the head using the head studio itself. This way you can make use of all head related features, like rotation, lipsync, expressions, etc.

We have uploaded the whole help video series on youtube, if you would like to check that out and see how it all works.

Of course let us know should you need further assistance!

Hi, note we mistaken this to our other toolkit. This answer is for our more recent Character Animation toolkit, which have auto lip-sync, face animations, etc. You an find this in the following link: https://videohive.net/item/character-animation-explainer-toolkit/23819644

This being said you can still do a good level of facial animation even using this toolkit.

Hi there, I am looking to purchase this product and just had a quick question, I need to create some animated characters that are of a particular graphic style so I would need to import my own, how simple is it to achieve this, and does the animation work as smoothly with custom characters? Thanks! – Nik

Hi, thank you for reaching out to us and for your interest!

This is quite simple to do, mostly a matter of drag and drop. And the animations will work normally with your characters. The only thing that you need to keep in mind is that the character body need to fit within a certain frame outline, for the toolkit to be able to pick it up. The only thing that you need to keep in mind is that the character has to fit within a specific frame, as the template will only work with the parts inside that frame. This is an image of the frame that it needs to fit within: https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4608/40082213662_d9f5cec617_o.jpg

(the image marked with a ’+’). The head can then be of any size and does not need to fit within the frame.

So it would be ideal to drag and drop your character on that image fisrt to see if this toolkit is right for you.

Alternatively, we have an other toolkit that is a bit more advanced than this one. THis allows for greater control for custom characters. You can find a link to this here: https://videohive.net/item/character-animation-explainer-toolkit/23819644

While in this video tutorial, we cover how you can insert custom characters in it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmCX3_6epTQ&t=1s

Note that this video is for the Character Animation Explainer Toolkit and not the Ultimate Character Animation Toolkit

Is there a tutorial on how to animate my own characters?

Hi, thank you for reaching out to us!

Yes, there is a tutorial available with the toolkit that shows how you can create basic custom animations.

Hi I have just purchased the Ultimate Character Animation tool kit and was send a zip file. what program do I need to open it. i can watch the tutorials but can not open the program itself can you kindly explain what I am doing wrong?

Thank you for reaching out to us.

As for our After Effects toolkits, these are designed and work within Adobe After Effects. You simply need to extract/ unzip the downloaded file. Then open the project file in Adobe After Effects. It is compatible with all the Creative Cloud After Effects versions.

From here onwards you should be able to follow the included video tutorials which will guide you through every feature of the toolkit.

Usually we would recommend a basic knowledge of the software as this will help you get around quicker. If you are completely new to the software I would recommend watching a couple of tutorials on youtube which would explain some after effects basics, like its layout, basic features, etc. I am leaving a link to a couple of videos here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MA2kVwJPBkg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHDhSidFhcQ&

hi, i had just purchased the program, where do i find the tutorials to begin working with the plug-in with after effects? i would like to learn to use it properly. thanks!

Hi, thank you for reaching out to us!

You can find a dedicated folder in the downloaded file. Simply download the file from the downloads section and unzip/ extract it. When you unzip the file you fill find a folder with a number of help videos that should guide you through every little feature. Of course, should you need any assistance along the way, we are also here to help!

Hope that you enjoy using the toolkit, and find it very useful! :)

This purchase was disappointing. Not worth the price compared to other character animation products i have bought

Hi, thank you for your feedback, and I am sorry that you feel this way. We believe that the product competes quite well with other items in the same price range. This being said, should you like to give us further feedback, we would love to hear it, as this will help us to continue improve our product and service. And of course should you have any questions or concerns don’t hesitate to let us know. You can send me an email at anytime on stephanzammit@neuronfx.com.

Hey, just wondering if you could help. I have created a 1 minute long project using the toolkit and when I scrub through on AE there is no issues with the characters however when I render the project and it finishes after about the 30 second mark the characters change they become “fatter” and have block hands (which whilst hilarious, isn’t ideal) any ideas what could be causing this?

Sorry, just an update it actually does change when I scrub through, I’ve had a look and it appears that something has happened to the base character image, I’ve tried reuploading the file but that doesn’t seem to have solved the problem

One last comment just in case anyone experiences the same issue as I did hopefully I can save you some time! I opened the original AEP file that I’d downloaded off this website and it loaded everything as normal, no idea how or why but when I opened the project I’m working on it had reverted everything back to normal so fingers crossed that’s solved whatever had happened

Hi, thank you for reaching out to us, and sorry we couldn’t get to you sooner! I am glad that the issue has been resolved, it seems that it was a memory issue from what I am understanding. It is a common After Effects issue where it stores bad information in the memory/ cache for specific frames and does not update them. If this happens again, try to go to Edit> Purge > Purge all memory and disk cache. This will erase frame information from the memory and recalculates the scene.

Hey, just wondering if you can help! I’ve just downloaded the toolkit and I have three files (Footage), Help Videos and Documentation and Ultimate Character Animation Toolkit – Project File.aep. each time I try and open the aep file it opens and loads but crashes every time I try to move to a different composition layer. Any chance you know what’s causing this?

Hi, thank you for reaching out to us!

We have never had any reports of something similar, so it might be a bit hard to pin point, but we will try our best to help you out :)

Firstly, have you unzipped/ extracted the files prior to opening it in After Effects? It is very important to not miss this step as After Effects need the files extracted in order to access them properly.

Are you getting any errors when it crashes? If so, you can send me a screenshot of the error so this will help us to identify the issue. You can send this to me directly on: stephanzammit@neuronfx.com

May I ask you the specifications of your PC? ...just to rule out that these are not the issue.

Finally what I would suggest is to maybe try opening it in an other After Effects version if you have one installed, you can easily upgrade or install new versions if you are using Adobe Creative Cloud. To make sure that the software is running with the latest tools and scripts, etc.

Hey, thanks for this! I’m just realising I could’ve jumped the gun on this too quickly! I’m just waiting for AE to update so I’m hoping it’s something to do with that, if not I’ll get back to you!

You’re very welcome. Yes let us know :) Thanks

Hello, Regarding the Licence terms is it like a tool licence? I mean do I have to purchase the toolkit once again each time I have a new project for a new client? Thus if I create 10 videos for 10 different client/project I have to purchase 10 products?

Hi, you can use the toolkit with a regular license for multiple videos provided that the videos are within the same genre/ series of videos. So for example, if you are a Youtuber who does cooking videos, you can have a series of videos using the same license.

You can find all the information related to licensing in the following link: https://videohive.net/licenses/faq#what-constitutes-series-a

This being said, when creating a new video for a different/ new project/ client, a new license need to be purchased.

Hi, when I open the file the program start an error: “Affter effects error: There was an error processing this PDF document. (1074397201) (50::29)”

After that the program crash.

I use the last version of AE 16.1.2

Hi, thank you for your message. This is usually associated with long file paths. When you have your assets placed in too long of a file path After Effects may find it difficult to find them. Just place the downloaded folder on your main drive, on the desktop. Make it so the computer takes the least amount of steps to locate everything.

Thanks for your fast answer :)! The file was on my One-Drive, I move it, and now works perfect.

You’re very welcome! Glad it worked out well! :)

Looks great! I have a question can these animations be output to json files using AE BodyMovin plug in?

Hi, not sure if this can be done, as we have never tested this. This being said, the rigs use the puppet tool to work, so I don’t think that bodymoving supports this.

Great, Thanks for the prompt response. Is it a duik or Rubberhose rig? If its duik, I would assume if puppet expression are converted to keyframes it should work. Guess I’ll have to test it. Thanks again

You’re very welcome! Yes, it is a duik rig, with puppet, etc.

Hi there.. Can I use my own personalise characters with this toolkit.. thanks..

Hi, thank you for your interest. Yes of course! The process is very simple, the template will auto rig the character for you, all you need to do is drag and drop the character image in it and it will do the rest.

Hi there -

This is a great kit, and it was a huge time saver for me. I’ve run into one problem and I’m wondering if you can shed any light on how to resolve it. Everything works great, until it is time to render, at which point the characters start to fall apart… Namely, the shirt sleeves start to disappear, and parts of the body are covered with grey colors.

Here’s a side by side screenshot of the preview, and the render: https://ibb.co/pzx16T6

Any idea where I’m going wrong?

Hi, thank you for your message. This is quite strange as we have never encountered this before. Is it possible to try and re-download the project, maybe something got corrupted along the way?

Some tips: Not sure if the following is the issue, but I think it is worth a shot. Sometimes After Effects have an issue where it happens to start rendering something wrongly, and saves this information on the HDD, so it will keep doing this until this information is erased. To fix this you can go to Edit > Preferances > Media & Disk Cache. Then from here click: Empty Disk Cache, and Clear Database and Cache.

Finally, by any chance did you hit the Continuously Rasterize, button on any of the characters, as this could also affect the rig. (you can find an example of this button in the following link: https://engage-site-cms.s3.amazonaws.com/production/engage-interactive/cms/processed/376af16ac0103adfcfa59726e4802cc9.jpg)

If the problem remains unsolved you can maybe send me the project file you are using, so I can check it up myself, to see where the issue might be. You can send me an email directly to stephanzammit@neuronfx.com

Thanks!

Hello! I need help with two things: first of all the head animations only seem to work with to, I can’t figure out how to make them work with the woman’s head for example. And when he walks, I want him to go right but his whole body movement turn to the left, I managed to rotate his chest and flip his head but the rest is still going the wrong way, it just looks incredibly funny. What am I doing wrong?

Hi, thank you for your message. As for your question regarding the body movement going to the right instead of left. We have made a video on this to help you out. It is explained in Help Video 08, that is provided with the toolkit (at around 14:00). Basically you simply need to flip the whole character to make it look to the right, by simply modifying its scale. You don’t need to flip his chest, head, etc individually. As for the head animations, you should be able to find all information regarding these in Help Videos 03, 04, and 05, so it is best to follow those to make sure that you understand all the features. Of course, feel free to get back to us if you still need clarification on something. You can send me an email using the message box available on the bottom right hand side of our videohive profile page. Thanks!

Question, what’s the difference between this AE version and the Premiere version? which one is more recommended?

Hi, the After Effects version is the main toolkit done in After Effects. The premiere pro version is basically the same toolkit but worked out in a way to be used in Adobe Premiere Pro. If you have After Effects installed my recommendation is to get the AE version as it will have slightly more features.

This looks great & I’d like to buy for todays Cyber sale. One quick question – I notice something about how the upper leg doesn’t bend from hip – but 1/2 way down, between the hip & knee, which seems strange. Will I be able to adjust that? Many thanks!

So – if I’m understanding you correctly – even if I add my own animation using the rig, it will still have that same odd bend in the mid thight. Is that correct? and thanks so much for the speedy reply!

This is correct, as the rig is made to accommodate a large spectrum of characters with different torso sizes, etc. This being said this is only noticeable in few animations and we never had clients concerned with it. Since it is not seen in most animations , like standing, walking, etc. Basically everything will look as can be seen in the Video Preview in the item page, as this was created directly with the toolkit :)

OK. Good point that it won’t be seen in most poses. I just missied the cyber monday sale – so I hope it will be in the next holiday sale! I will definitely purchase it if it is!

Hi there, I just bought this toolkit and started using it on After Effects CC 2015. After unzipping, I got this in my laptop – https://prnt.sc/lmmedw.

To start, I clicked on 3rd one (AE file) and played your 1st Tutorial. But,

Problem 1: In your 1st tutorial, in import section, you have – Ultimate Character Animation Toolkit>Characters>My Characters & three items here – (1) Character 01; (2) Character 02-Red Boy; (3) Place your custom character here – Body [http://prntscr.com/lmmiki]. And, in my AE import section, I got Ultimate Character Animation Toolkit>Characters>My Characters & only two items. Red boy is missing [https://prnt.sc/lmmjqz].

Problem 2: In your 1st tutorial at 1:32, how did you import the stickman? I’ve thrice checked all the files and unable to find that Stick Man Character.PNG in any of the folders/items you provided in the zip file (needless to say, I’ve already unzipped) and in the AE import section as well. Please help, Thanks in advance.

Hi, thank you for your message. The video tutorial is always made on a slight beta version of the project. This is because we continue improving and working on the toolkit until the second we upload it. All the pre-made characters are now neatly organised inside the Pre-Made Characters section.

As for you second question, that stickman character is only a representation to show how you can import your own characters, etc, and it is not part of the toolkit. (It is basically used to illustrate that you can add your own characters that you design, and how you can do this). All the included characters are mentioned in the project description on videohive. They are namely the 10 characters that are seen in the preview image. Of course, you can then design additional characters and use those as well :)

Thanks! Stephan

Hi, can I change the character with my own drawing? Is it easy to do?

Hi, thank you for your interest.

Yes you can do this. The process is very simple, the template will auto rig the character for you, all you need to do is drag and drop the character image in it and it will do the rest.

Of course, if you would like more information you can send us a message through our profile page and we will be sure to help you out! :)
