Can just the player element be isolated and looped for use on a much longer (approx. 15 minute) segment?
Yes, you can isolate one player composition.
if i expand comp size to 3600px wide will the ‘players’ still be visible or will they get cut off? for example with lomo shots i can expand comp size and ‘picture reels’ are still visible

Yes you can expand the comp up to 3600px wide and the players still there. You will just need to fix the backgroung, that will be very easy because they are single solids.
