Jvari Monastery (Georgian: ჯვრის მონასტერი) is a sixth-century Georgian Orthodox monastery near Mtsheta in eastern Georgia. Jvari is a rare Early Medieval Georgian church that has survived almost unchanged. The church became the founder of the Jvari type of church architecture common in Georgia and Armenia. Built on top of Mount Jvari (656 m altitude), the monastery is an example of a harmonious connection with the natural environment, typical of medieval Georgian architecture. The monastery, along with other historical buildings of Mtskheta, was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994. High quality image with DRON.
