how do you ad text to the lower third??

I have Movie edit pro 15 plus and adobe premier and all i get is the solid black background. What is the problem?

I learned a lot in the past few days. Camtasia does not have an alpha track and the video came in with a solid black background. I bought Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 11 (about $69 on Amazon) and changed the properties to alpha. Works perfectly.
