for all the people complaining about 1 character, just use “true comp duplicator”. Free on aescripts and updates all expression with 1 click.
Wow, this tip was amazing. Thank you for that!!
Almost deserver a free version of the template for that
you could even include the plugin i think, not sure what the license is. But it is a plugin where you can decide what you pay. You will need a plugin too that cleans all unused things (is also standard option in AE), but every character is in a composition. If you duplicatie your project 30 times your project becomes unmanageable. There are ways to keep it clean and mark of the copy what you want or only copy a segment
Hello does this project works fine in AE 2020? If not whats the latest version it works?
Hi! Yes, it’s working on AECC2020. It must be in English and by default the expression engine must to be in Extended Script. If you have any problem you can reach me here!
Hi,i love this product, seen some tutorials on youtube and is perfect for my needs.
I have a question regarding the licence that may or may not prevent me from buying it.
Can i create as many videos with it or only one?
Im planing on creating youtube videos with it,im not planning on selling the work created with it.
But im planing to monetize the videos with adsense.
Looking forward for your reply.
Hello there! Yes, you can use to as many videos as you want. I’m planning to change in t licence to ‘tool’, it will make more sense. Thanks!!
Hi, is it also possible to have automated lipsync?
Hi! Sorry but no. I’m studing a way to make it possible, but for know it must be done manually.
Thanks for the interest.
When do you think this will be possible?
Hello there! Sorry, I don’t have a date yet.
Hi, how can we add an shadow to our character
Hi! You can use a plug-in called real-shadow. It’s very easy to use, and perfect for the characters.
Where can I buy this one?
Sorry, they changed the name. Now it’s VFX Shadow. Available here: https://www.redgiant.com/products/vfx-shadow/
Now it’s too expensive. I suggest you do duplicate the character comp, apply a fill with the shadow color that you want (black probably) and use power-pin effect to git perspective to it.
It you didn’t got it let me know, I can make a screen cast to show you.
Tnks for buying!
Yes, that is very expensive. Please show it on a video for me how it works. I hope this is not as much works as the lipsync is, because that is horror!
I have bought this but I find it inconvenient because I am not able to animate multiple characters in a single project. Its really difficult to create mov files for each and every character. Making changes becomes difficult and positioning/timing the characters in respect to one another seems frustrating. Is there a way out or I have to live with how it is?
Hello there!
It’s the best way to me. And I got used to it. But if this workflow is annoying you I sugest you to try it:
-Import the Design&Motion project to a blank project on After Effects.
-Open the “_Character Animations” composition. It’s important to see if you get any expressions error during this process.
-On the Project tab, type “comp” on the seach bar.
-Rename manually adding with “_1” at the end of the name: “_Character Animations” “_Character Texture” “Body” “Character Settings” “Head_Front” “L_hand” “R_hand” “R_TexAccessoriesExtrude” “L_TexAccessoriesExtrude”
-Rename all other comps with “_1” too, but in this case you can use a script like “Project_Items_Renamer”, using the ‘append tail with’ option (avaiable at http://www.crgreen.com/aescripts/).
Now you can import anoter Design&Motion project, and you will not have expressions conflicts. Now you have two characters with all controlers avaiable in one project.
You can go the same way to get more and more characters on scene, but using “_2”, “_3” and so on.
Just keep in mind that every character have about 300 expressions that are calculated every frame to make it work. So your project may become very slow depending on the number of characters.
Let me know if it worked to you!
Thank you for buying.
Hi Jack. I am just about to purchase your creation. just one question. can i change the character designs?
Hi! I made a tutorial to explain how exactly you are able to change the character desing. Please, take a look!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkEfovHkmC0Hi, thanks for this wonderful tool! I have one question. Can you import more than 1 character in a comp? thanks
Hi! Thank you!
I have a workflow that I use in my animations that can make it very easy and fast to use. In fact, there is a part of my tutorial that shows how to work with multiple characters in one scene. You can see it at 19:27 https://youtu.be/Xj9iKmsqG9U My workflow to make an animation as you want is:
1. Created your animation for the first character. Save the project as “Character A” for example.
2. Render it with alpha channel.
3. Save as the project and call it “character B” for example.
4. Replace the character texture and create your animation. Render it with alpha channel.
5. Create a new empty project and import the rendered characters.
6. If need some animation adjustment, open the other projects again and render it again.
I hope it helps you.
Best, Jack.
Hi,
Just a question. I already animate a character using the optimised version. I already copied them to the character texture and it all works fine.
But how do i extract just the new animation part so that i can insert it in the Drop modular animation comp without having to put the entire _CharacterAnimation comp?
love your product by the way.
Hi! Let me tell you how I created the modules:
On Character Animation comp, use markers and add name to it to know here is the start and end of your animation.
On the project pannel, click and drag this comp above the “new composition” button. Rename it with the name that you want.
Now, using the shortcut “K” you can navegante through the markers. When you find your markers, set the in and out point of this composition. Them trim it.
Now you have a pre-comp with the exactly length of your animation.
If it was hard to follow, please send me a message via my user profile so I can reach out.
Thank you again, all the best,
Jack.
Hi, yeah i understand and it works. Thank you..
Just a YES/NO question – Can you make the characters walk up or down the stairs?
Hi! Yes, you can do or I can indicate an animator to help you!
Thanks, you mean you can help me do it at an extra cost? If that’s a yes, it’d be what I would expect of course.
Yes. I have a co-worker that can do it for you at an extra cout. Sorry, I wasn’t so clean in my last message.
It look amazing! Is it possible to change the character wit ours and use only motions from this?
Hi! Depending on your character design, is possible to adapt one character of the kit to make it looks similar to yours. There is a tutorial about character design on my YouTube, I will help you to understand better!
https://youtu.be/XkEfovHkmC0thanks
Your project seems super useful. One question though; can we have several characters designed in the same project file? I need to design an explainer video with several characters sitting on a table with laptops. In fact it’s a cartoon animation with several shots where we need several characters interacting with each other. Is that possible?
Thank you Benzone. A character in After Effects represents a lot of layers and expressions. In my experience both in D&M Char Kit or others kits, have several of them at the same time on scene can be annoying to use. The AE become to slow because all the expression must to be calculated every new frame.

I just bought your product and have not been able to load it without getting 114 expression errors. I have gone back to the 2017 version of AF and am in English. If this problem can’t be resolved I would like my money back. Thanks, James
Hi James!
Please, can you send me screenshot of these errors? If it’s in English don’t suppose to have any expression error, I will need to take a look.
I can’t send you a screen shot here so I replied to your email with it. Well I can’t send the screenshot through that email either.
Sorry, I forget, you must to send me a message via my profile, so I’m able to reach you via email.
Or just send it to hello@2deadfrog.com
I downgraded and now I’m using AF version 16 and I’m still getting 114 expression errors. I’m using English. Please help
When opening the main file it converts the file (Windows 64) in order to open it. When it does AE crashes – AE works fine with every other project and files. Any solutions?
Hi! What’s your AE version? I had some trouble with AE CC2019. I’m working on it, but for now it’s only supported on CC2018.
Best, Jack.
The latest verion AE CC19. Just tried CC18 and works just fine.
Sorry for that. I’m working on a stable version for AE2019.
I have After Effects CS6 Version 11.0.4.2 and don’t working, can you help me please!!!!
Hi! What’s you AE language?
Spanish
Hello there!
It’s happens because the project is not Universal. You must to set your language to English. There is a easy way to do this, and you can revert wherever you want. Take look at this tutorial:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eURVf4lsI2Q Best, Jack.Hola, me salen unos errores no funciona en mi version de after effects cs6, tampoco en la cc 2018
can it be applied to characters with more than 4 hands, such as octopus?
Hi! By default no. Sorry.
I just upgraded to After Effects 2019 and starting up the kit results in a program crash when updating the original AEP file. Any word on an updated or compatible version of this great program for AE 2019?
Hi! I’m working to figure out what happened in AE 2019. A lot of new features in After Effects, and something with shape layers and rasterized comps are just crashing AE without warning. For now, the best is keep with AE 2018. I’m working to solve it and waiting for a more stable update from Adobe. Sorry for that!
Hello there!
I updated my AE to version 16.0.1 and now the Design and Motion Character Kit is very stable again.
Very soon I will update all the inside expression to the new Java Script Engine (new CC2019 feature), it will give us a speed gain while editing animations.
Best, Jack.
Any plan to add animals (quadrupeds) to this pack?
Hi! That’s a great request. I will think on how I can make it possible. Thank you for your suggestion!
Hey when I’, trying to adjust and move character , the program is very slow and unresponsive. Is there anyway to make it smooth like this video
Hi! Please, send me a message via my user profile, so I can reach you via email to understand better what is going on. In the meantime make sure that the handles are disabled. Just click on your comp viewer at any where, then go to “Viewer/View Options/” and disable the Handles.
