Very bright work!!! Gloomy, Gothic, mysteriously, it is fascinating!! It is a pity that it is impossible to get into this lock and to plunge into its atmosphere inside!
tnx 4 nice comment!
Hey, love your ‘live’ matte paintings. However, if I may make a suggestion: you should use some environmental light on foreground objects. Even a little side light of the lightning would add a believable (missing) element, making this far more realistic. For example, in the case of your harbor-sailboat piece the sunlight’s flashes in the background, but nothing in the foreground is affected. Oops. It is not hard to do convincing 2-1/2D, but like 2D or 3D being consistent is important.
Also, slightly soft edges (try PS basking using a feathering of 0.2 – 0.3 pixels) before deleting/erasing, can make all the difference.
Just some advice from a guy with 35 years experience as an illustrator and SFX guru. Best wishes… Dorian
