Hey guys, I’m baffled. I’m trying to use the flares in Avid but there’s no alpha key and they look horrible with a luma key. I bought the unlimited license because I love the way they look but I find them to be unusable in Avid. Opacity tweaking darkens the entire background. Any advice? My client exclusively uses Avid. Thank you for reaching out. As mentioned in the description, these flares are meant to work with Blending Modes set to “Add” or “Screen” which usually come quite standard in most editing & compositing programs. I did a bit of research and for some very strange reason it seems like Avid does not include that feature. I apologize as I personally haven’t used Avid in the past but feel free to send me over a DM and I can try to help you out the best I can on this end.
I know Avid pretty well. Without an Alpha channel, luma key is my best alt option, but Tte “soft” controls on the luma key only serve to ghost the effect. Your product description said it worked on all edit systems. They look great! Unfortunately I can’t use them. What’s the refund procedure? Thanks.

If this doesn’t work then another alternative would be to potentially apply these blending modes (Add or Screen) in After Effects and export the footage back into Avid? Unfortunately I have never been through a refund process on this item before so I’m assuming you will have to contact Envato to request one.

Is there an easy way to give the .mov an alpha layer, I just bought them and I can only use them in what I want if i can get the alpha layer.

I’m having trouble changing the color of each flare. How exactly do I use tint? How are you setting the Map to Black and Map to White?
Hello Jermendoza, Not too sure if I fully understand your question? You do not need to set any maps for these. Simple change your blending modes to “Screen” or “Add” over your footage these will overlay on top. This is also covered in the help file as well.
As far as using the tint effect, in AE it is located under Effects / Colour Correction / Tint. Then change the colours to your desired preference. Hope this helps.

Does Avid MC blend like this, or is this something I have to do in AE?
Not too sure what functions Avid MC has. If it is a basic editing program it should have blending mode capabilites. My best advice would be to look up how to do blending modes in Avid. If this doesn’t work then you can always apply these blending modes (Add or Screen) in After Effects and export the footage back into Avid. Hope this helps.
Aren’t you adding black to your footage if you try to blend this over your shots???
If the layer contains a dark value then applying these blend modes to that layer is equivalent to using these black / grey values as opacity. Therefore the rest of your footage will not be darker.
I am not sure Avid MC does that, but I can always bring everything into AE

Hey GeorgeO, unfortunetly i am unaware of the workflow for those programs however if they are able to import .mov files and change blending modes then they should work no problem.
Are these alpha channels or .movs?
They are .movs but you can easily overlay them over any footage by changing the blending mode to “screen” or “add”
