I have another question. Somehow media place holder 12 and media place holder 19 have become linked. If I replace media place holder 12, that same change will automatically and irrevocably happen to media place holder 19 as well. Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

No worries, here is solution for You. (I have checked project. It seems that You have use one media for 12 and 19 media placeholder, because we have 2 different media file for this media placeholders.) But this is not a problem. Just Find Media placeholder 19 in project window and Click (CTRL+D) You will duplicate this media placeholder. Now Find old media 19 composition in timeline Press ALT and Drag & Drop New (Duplicate) media placeholder over the old. You will replace this media placeholder with the new one. Now just replace media file inside this compositions and That’s All!
