Unfortunately it was never meant to adjust the camera and I disagree that fixed camera would make it less great.

Since you are looking for depth customization that is way beyond the originally intended level – i guess you have pretty solid knowledge of After Affects. I assume you also know that After Effects is not a 3D modeling software.

The 2.5D After Effects has – is highly limited and in this template I am pushing the limits to achieve what normally would not be achievable in AE without expensive third party 3D plugins like Element3D or Zaxwerks 3D Invigonator that removes the flat layer limitation.

With distorted fake 3D layers and smart camera moves the effect is achieved, but what you are asking requires completely different set of tools and complete rebuild of the project.

I hope you understand that this is an objective limitation of AfterEffects and it’s not some kind of laziness on my side. I did the best i could with the available tools. i still believe there are plenty of materials and scenes you can choose from and make a unique result from them without ever having to mess with the camera animation.

Since this is not a print template, but an animated mock-up the placeholder size is not specifically tied to paper standards. It’s more of a proportion between with and height. Placeholder size is 920×1200px which is closer to proportion US Letter size has. As I said – this is a mock-up where you view pages from an angle and they get distorted in perspective anyway, so you can freely crop/scale your pages in placeholders and it will work for both A4 and US letter standard.

Looks like that read-me file is from another project. You can simply ignore it. I will remove it.

You can use videos instead of static images with no problem. Just place them where the images would normally go. The hardest part is with length. 8-10sec is not really considered short clip. It would be safer to use this project rather than the previous version as in this project you have greater control over which scenes you want to use and pick the ones that are slower and has more display time, but I still doubt you would find scenes that could accommodate 8sec clip without animating away. In a dynamic video world 8sec is a lot for a single cut.

None of what you’re asking has been built in and meant to use it for, but if you choose scenes carefully you might be able to give impression that there are only 2 pages. Also since it’s completely built inside After Effects with no pre-renders. So you can disable some of the extra pages to make it look thinner.

Unfortunately there is no easy way to change page size proportions. it was built to meet the majority standard needs.

It wasn’t mentioned to be transformed that way, but you could try. I was able to make the spine larger for “02 cover-slow-slide” In this comp you need to double click layer number 8, which is called “Cover-precomp-for-scene02”, then adjust Corner pin effect for the “edge-spine” layer. You might also need to reposition and maybe even duplicate some of the dummy pages to make the whole thing look thicker.

Looks like After Effects is disabling some of the Expressions that prevents this. It’s an AfterEffects bug and so far i couldn’t find the reason why it happens every now and then.

To fix it: Open the fast flip comp that is doing it. Usually second layer from bottom is one that has all animations in it. Double click that layer to open the comp. Now select the green page layers one by one and hit U on keyboard. That will reveal all keyframes and expressions for that layer. Look for expression for Position parameter that has ”=” sign crossed out and values yellow not red. Enable the expression by clicking on that ”=” sign.
