I just purchased the product, it seems good, but I have a task that I couldn’t find a solution to in the tutorial. My goal is to create an animation where the hand draws the phases of creating a cartoon character: first only skeleton, then rougher outlines of body shape, then with detailed lines, and finally I paint it. I saved the phase drawings separately in jpg format and imported them all into AE. What I don’t know is how to solve the fact that the hand first masks one jpg layer in the same area, and then the hand masks the other jpg layer in the same area? My other question: how can I create new artboards (if I just duplicate the existing artboard, the hand movement does not work in the new one)
Hey Nandoki thanks for purchasing the kit! Can you send me some images of your issue over to info@legacyproco.com so I can better assist you with your project?
Hi MistaMogi. Unfortunately I have to say that I’m not satisfied. It is time-consuming and technically complicated. I may try once more, but I have a problem. Artboard_1 shows the drawing (with hand), but scene_1_hd (for example) does not show it. Even if I render artboard_1 the drawing does not appear. After Effects CC 2020 and After Effects CC 2021
Hi areahumana, i’m sorry you are not satisfied with the kit. Have you copied and pasted a hand rig from the ‘drawing_hands_library’ into the artboard? I show how to do this in the tutorial video included with the kit. If this does not fix the issue, please send me a screenshot of your comps to info@legacyproco.com so I can further assist you.
Many thanks for the support. I have paid great attention to your tutorial from Vimeo, and I pasted a hand rig from the ‘drawing_hands_library’ into the artboard. I am going to send to your mail two screenshot: the artboard_1 window in which you can see the drawing of the flower and the same point of time in the scene_1_hd window that it does not appear
I received your email, working through these issues there
Thanks!!!!
No problem!
Hi, MistaMogi. I must say I am more than satisfied with your support. Perhaps it would be convenient to include some issues in the tutorials, but your support is very satisfactory and the most important in our sector: it is very fast. Thank you
Appreciate it areahumana
I am afraid that although the support is fast and good, the tool is terrible. I have been using it, I have advanced knowledge of After Effects, however it is a quite confuse, it does not seem like a professional tool. The renders consume a lot of time, even having a very powerful machine. It does not work automatically in any thing. It’s a real waste of time. I would like a refund. It seems to me a tool that does not work.
Hi, I bought this template a few days and just now navigating everything. For some reason, the drawing tools and hand, when copied to the artboard, is not showing at the center point of the drawing controls, but in fact at the corner of the drawing controls. How do I fix this? I can provide a screenshot if need be. Thanks!
Hey there! Thank you for purchasing the kit. Can you send that screenshot to info@legacyproco.com so I can better assist you?
Hello,
i do have the image at artboard_1 comp, but at scene_1_hd copm its showed only the hand with the pen but no image picture ? can you help
Hey emaxy, can you please send a screenshot of your issue to info@legacyproco.com? You have watched the tutorial video that came with the kit correct?
Is there any way to increase the region for the free flowing hands? Thanks!
Answered you back via email.
Please research the similar project 20608476 here. It is simple, clear, and fast. I thought your idea could be better, but you didn’t complete it.
AndrewStep see my other post.
The project is difficult. The tutorial is very fast and incomprehensible, does not match the real project. I spent 5 hours and did nothing. Where is automation? I want my money back.
Hi AndrewStep, this kit is designed to provide basic high quality tools for creating a whiteboard animation without the use of a camera or drawing skills, it does not automatically make them for you and you need to have some after effects knowledge to use it.
I researched the kit you referenced and there is nothing in that kit that you cannot also do in mine. In fact, the methods used in that kit also uses masks, which is the same method I use in mine.
I spend months painstakingly developing my kits so you are entitled to your opinion and a refund if you wish.
I see the project is big. Please remake the tutorial for the dumbest dumb. Follow just the original project. “Drawing” and “Transition brushes” explain with one simple example, slowly with zoom effect. Do not use it with millions of different new layers. Thank you.
I appreciate your feedback, it will be considered in future iterations.
Hi, this looks awesome. Is it possible to produce video without the hand or pen involved? My aim is to create an explainer. Thanks
Hi EuroMogul, technically you don’t have to use the hand or pen features if you don’t want to. The kit contains tools like the transition brushes, paper textures, ‘image to line art’ creator, guides and camera presets to help build a whiteboard animation. It does not come with any sort of pre made images however, so it is up to you if these tools are sufficient enough for you to use this kit to make you whiteboard animation. Hope this helps!
It’s exactly what I need! A simple sequence of my own images that have been converted to line art. Thank you
No problem!
I purchased this yesterday and followed the tutorial video trying to learn how to use it. However, I noticed a couple problems in the After Effects project file:
1. Artboard 4 in the tutorial is missing from .aep file.
2. I constantly see an error message while trying out various things following the tutorial. By the end of the tutorial the error messages accumulated to a number of thirteen: “This project contains expression errors: error 1 of 13.”
3. There seems to be a mismatch between drawing pen names and types. For example, the “pencil” is not a pencil for me, the “sharpie pen” has a cap covering its penpoint, the highlighter doesn’t have a brand name or logo printed on it (unlike in the tutorial), and the wacom pen is actually a pencil…
4. The drawing hand doesn’t move with my cursor (unlike in the video), nor does clicking at the center point have any effect. In fact when I click and drag it’s just a normal selecting rectangle (in gray) appearing, with the drawing pen/hand remaining motionless.
5. When I check the enable_quick_view box a creepy disconnected arm stays on the canvas (without hand part)!!
6. The final part of the tutorial on how to actually create a whiteboard drawing animation is too fast and cursory (especially the brush transition bit) and I find it hard to follow (I’m just a beginner in After Effects). In particular, I can’t reproduce the headphone example in the tutorial—I used a random .jpg picture and successfully converted it into a line art, but from there on nothing was successful for me.
7. The tutorial doesn’t specify how to apply the tools outside the downloaded .aep file, for example, in my own project. Do I need to copy everything over, import the toolkit, or simply create my project within the toolkit .aep file?
Overall, this toolkit can potentially be very useful and convenient, but the tutorial certainly can be made more detailed and step-by-step. Maybe it should be replaced by a series of longer tutorials, with exercise files and everything, just like the kind of tutorial typically accompanying training courses on YouTube.
Hey Jshapepup, first of all, apologies for the issues you are having with the kit. I will put together a detailed report on each of your points and get back to you with solutions.
As you are one of the first to download the kit, I am making on-the-fly updates to better serve the artists that download it.
I appreciate your notes. Bare with me while I provide more detailed instructions for the video tutorial.
Hey Jshapepup,
First things first, email me at info@legacyproco.com so I can send you the updated project file.
I went through the project and here are my notes. Apparently, updating the project to the newest version of After Effects that was released last week seemed to mess things a few things up:
1. ‘Artboard 4’, as seen in the video tutorial is just another artboard I created to make a demonstration, it is not any different than any of the other artboards.
2. The error messages have been addressed so they shouldn’t be an issue anymore.
3. Update messed up the linking of the writing tools, this has been fixed.
4. With a drawing hand copied and pasted into the artboard, make sure you select the ‘draw_controls’ layer, as that layer is what controls the hand movement. Let me know if you’re still having an issue with the new project file (tested it myself, and is working properly)
5. The creepy ghost arm was an expression error and is fixed as well.
6. I am working on a more detailed video tutorial this week to help in this regard. I will note that you need to implement your own knowledge of after effects to create the actual animations, this kit simply provides the tools to create the look and feel of a whiteboard animation.
7. All of your assets needs to be imported into the main project file. Importing the tools into another project may mess up an expression so I don’t recommend it.
Again, I appreciate all of your notes, i’m sorry the kit had these bugs and I hope I have addressed all of them in this updated version.
Hey Jshapepup,
The new project file has been uploaded to VideoHive, should be approved within 48 hrs. I have added 2 detailed project walkthroughs at the end of the video tutorial.
Thanks a lot for answering my questions and for the new tutorial. I’ll take a look and let you know if I have more questions.
No problem!
