I don’t understand what you need to do, please give me more details. Either way there is no tutorial included that shows how the template was created.

the borders are vector paths so you can edit them using the pen tool and shows the ukraine as it was when I created the template which is before the current conflict started

btw there are no “international recognized laws” there are two ways a country is recognized, the first one is by other countries in a direct treaty and second one by UN where who decides are the 5 permanent members of the security council where Russia is a member off. So that throws out of the window any “international laws” topic for Ukraine.

I’m deeply sadden by the victims of this conflict on both sides. What I don’t understand why some of Ukraine citizen (looking at your flag) take offense with my After Effects map templates. You are not the first one showing up with this type of comment. This template is a just a tool to create motion graphics, not the “law” over what are the Ukraine borders right now.

Which map you are editing?

Hi Doru! Which of your tutorials of the European map kit explains how to change the name of the cities or other map elements? I want to change citynames of Greece. Txs! Ron

The tutorial is 05 LOCATIONS COMPOSITION.mp4 Just open the Greece map and follow the tutorial. You can change all the locations, move them or delete them

You can do this effect by animating the “Particle Y Size” located in “Group 1 then “Particle Look” submenu. All this in the Element 3D plugin effect options.

If you don’t want the map to get flat to the center but rise from the bottom you need to change the “Anchor Point XYZ” that is found in the “Scene Setup” the Element 3D window where you have updated the map object path. I’m not sure why the this anchor point is not present in the plugin effects options window.

But just move it roughly to the bottom of the map in the Scene Setup window.

Then you may want to have the normal map getting stronger at the same time.

In the “Scene Setup” window this is easy to change but you can’t add keyframes there. And I’m not sure if this option is present in the plugin effect options. I didn’t find it.

You can do it with a different approach. First in the same composition where the Element 3D plugin is located, you need to reveal the hidden layers.

Then you precompose the NORMAL.png layer.

You open this composition, add a solid layer on top, add a fill effect (or change the solid color) with the picker get a color from the normal map bellow, a water zone if present works best.

Then you keyframe the solid layer opacity from 100 to 0 at the same time with the animation of the map scale.

Please read the above carefully, there are a lot of steps, if you have any questions let me know.

Hello doru, i like to put my own custom map (like i see on your examples like french etc) and make 3d moving cross map?

If you have a custom map image, you need to place it in the composition where all the border layers are located, where the textures included with the template are located. Then use to existing layers as reference to rotate, scale and position the image.

For the second part of the question I assume you mean to create a camera animation over the map, is this correct?

The borders are included as shape layers in After Effects. They are clearly named so you can hide, update or modify them easily.

You can use the tools from AE to draw new borders or you can also import vector borders if you have them already and add them on top of the map, you can convert them to shape layers to apply reveal animation effects or similar.

You could take a map from 1908 with the borders you need, use Illustrator to convert it to vector, separate the borders/countries/elements you want to use and save them for AE. Then import those borders and have them on top the map.

There are big chances that the projection will work as I’ve used correctly standard projections for this template.

As you can see from the preview I’ve used real old maps images and they fit perfectly as textures.

Is important to prepare your files with care before importing, separating on layers the elements you want to animate.

Yes, I don’t see any reason why it should not work, for the Element 3D version make sure you have the plugin installed, for the standard version I’ve used only After Effects effects. Off course if it doesn’t work let me know and I will investigate eventual issues

Not sure if is simple, because the 3D map is rendered in Element3D so you need to mask in somehow the material inside Element3D, or maybe using a duplicate of the Element3D layer and mask the water using After Effects mat options. I can’t provide a simple answer unfortunately

If you are referring to the maps that shows old Iceland, France and Switzerland, these are example of enhancement of existing maps. These specific maps are images.

Because the maps of this template use a projection that is accepted as standard for each country one can take a map image with the same projection and can successfully fit it to the template and locations will be in the correct place.

For example, the France old map was made 1891 and because it uses the same map projection values as it is used now for France it is simple to fit to the template.

The old maps are not included in the template but are free to use because are in the public domain. They are actual old maps not modern maps made in old style. If you need them let me know, I should have the links in my archives,

Off course the template comes with its own textures and with labels that can be edited.

Actually way more than what I was expecting.
