Sorry to hear you’re experiencing performance issues with the template. As you’ve mentioned, it’s not terribly render intensive and doesn’t utilize any 3rd party plugins that would slow down the application or your computer.

Are the issues you’re experiencing with every graphic, or just certain graphics? And are the performance issues occurring during preview rendering, or when attempting to render the final versions?

Performance issues could be caused by a wide variety of factors, so it’s difficult to pinpoint a specific solution.

This video is a bit on the older side, but the same principals will always apply when attempting to achieve better performance, so perhaps it might offer some ideas to speed things up for you:

Hey Tyson! Thanks so much for the quick reply. I’m sadly all too familiar with optimization techniques. I’ve run into faulty plugins before and even seen certain fonts throw AE for a loop.

I agree this seems like a well-designed and light load project. Performance improves slightly by changing to multi team mode and reducing project down to the one I’m working on. Even nudging a text field one pixel can cause a 30 second hang.

If it helps with troubleshooting – one interesting observation is it tends to render the change (showing the new nudge position) after I make the next move. If I’m typing, I can select all text, then type, but it freezes until I type another letter. When I do, the previous entry appears. I thought maybe multiprocessing in ‘22 was the snag, but same result in 2021 (18).

I’ll keep investigating, it could be something on my end, but is the only project I’ve experienced this. I work in complex 4K comps all the time. Cheers!

It’s come to our attention that the text layers were accidentally locked and rendered “unclickable”.

We’re working on providing an update now, but in the meantime, the fix is very simple:

1. Toggle the shy layers button in the top of the timeline (circled in red)
2. Unlock layers 30-35, which will make them clickable.

If you have CC2018, then you must have an active Adobe Creative Cloud subscription, which gives you access to free updates to the latest versions of the software. All you have to do is download and install the latest version of After Effects.

Sadly not – all software is ran through our I.T. department, not updated by user, and is only updated on an overall site need (based on 250 systems which access ADOBE CC). Additionally the description states COMPATIBLE WITH CC2018 AND ABOVE – the ‘fix’ should not be on the user when the description is incorrect. Easiest method could be to make earlier (compatible) versions available too.

After Effects isn’t backward compatible with previous versions of the program. For authors to offer multiple CC versions, we would need to maintain several different versions of the software on our computers, which simply isn’t realistic. The information in the sidebar accurately stated that the template was only compatible with the latest version of CC, but you are correct that the project description did falsely note that it was still compatible with the outdated 2018 version.

Again, we always ask that customers update to the latest version of each program.

Please make sure the Bebas Neue and Montserrat fonts are also properly installed, not just downloaded to your computer. If the project is generating missing font errors, the font files may not be installed properly. You may also need to quit and restart After Effects after installing the font files.

We’ve updated the project version to v1.7 to confirm it is fully compatible with CC2020, so please download the project again. Please make sure you’re working with the latest version of Adobe After Effects CC2020 (v17.1.4).

Hopefully all of these steps will resolve any locked project issues.

Thanks I didn’t have them correctly downloaded. But now when I’m editing the scoreboard only the text goes to the time I need, how do I get everything else to go longer than the default length??

Try placing the Time Remapping effect on the scoreboard layer to extend it to the length you require.

Layer > Time > Enable Time Remapping

This will generate a keyframe at the beginning of the layer, and the end of the layer, and allow you to extend the end point of the layer to the end of your composition.

Essentially, the final frame of the composition will be frozen for the duration of the clip and remain on the screen.

The team names aren’t updated in the Customize Appearance panel – only colors and styles are edited there.

The team names need to be entered in their build compositions, which is outlined in the tutorial videos (which tutorial video depends on whether you’re working in Highlight Mode or Single Game mode).

Once you’ve had a chance to dig into the tutorial video a little more, let us know if you still have any questions.

The Customize Appearance Panel is for changing the global look/style of the template. Editing the team names, score, and other information occurs in other compositions.

Thanks for your purchase! Since After Effects isn’t a live-broadcast environment, and graphics need to be edited and rendered manually, there are a few steps:

1. Position your playhead at the point in the timeline where you’d like the animation to occur
2. Highlight the layers that you want to edit, and press Command+D on your keyboard to split the layers (see screenshot 01)
3. On the newly created set of layers, update the information accordingly (see screenshot 02)
4. For the baserunner graphic, you’ll need to set keyframes for the on/off state. Please reference the “SINGLE GAME MODE OPTIONS” layer in one of the screenshots above.

There is an “extra cost” is only if you choose to use the elements shown in the preview video. In many cases, you’ll be able to find something on Elements that can easily replace the assets you’re looking for, if those assets in particular are not available on Elements.

But this is all relative. Many After Effects or Premiere projects (Baseball Tonight included) would cost thousands of dollars if built as a standalone, bespoke project.

The fact that Elements gives you access to literally an incalculable amount of templates for such a small fee, is quite an incredible value, even if you did decide to purchase an additional audio track to complete your project.
