Also, are you using an English version of AE, or a different language? (It might be an expression issue)

Thanks: the problem was making the entire background & icon layer appear black for me in CS3 (regardless of colours selected) but I managed to find a solution by hiding the ‘texture matte’ layer in the ‘fx_cta’ composition (step 3, setup, panel fx): not sure what this layer should do but result is still excellent!
