I’ve used Adobe After Effects for other photo compositions purchased on Video Hive but am finding the instruction on how to use this one far more complicated than necessary. I just want to add my own photos/media and render. A simplified instruction on how to do just that first and foremost, beyond a focus on the inner workings of the project, may be more helpful to casual users like myself.

Thanks for your purchase, and greatly appreciate the feedback!

We’ve always tried to be very detailed an in-depth with our video instruction to eliminate the need to wait for support. It’s difficult to create templates that perfectly suit the needs of all users, or anticipate how our templates will be used across a wide range of experience levels, so we try to err on the side of too much information, rather than not enough.

Other than sifting through the extensive tutorial, we hope you found the template useful!

Would it be possible to do this with images that are larger / different size than the current photo placeholders? I’d like to use this as a template with scans from magazine pages, so the images would be larger. Thanks!

Hello!

Thanks a lot for your purchase. The project is set up to display media in either a rectangular (wide) or square proportion. If you’d like to make the placeholders appear vertically, that can be accomplished with just a few steps:

  1. In the “media scene” comps, insert your media rotated at a -90° angle. The image should appear sideways like in this screenshot: http://envato.d.pr/sXbB/5SvIbXLd

  2. In the main “scene” comps, change the Z-axis keyframes on the Camera layer to something between 85°-100°, which will rotate the entire scene to make the frames appear like vertical rectangles, mimicking magazine page layouts: http://envato.d.pr/KHH/4yEVH5VHM

That’s it!

Hopefully that helps, but if you have any further questions, please contact me directly.

Absolutely love this !! The tutorial is excellent too.

I want to find a way to show the “footage” under the current top photo. I’m using photos & want to see the small parts of previous photos that often protrude from under the top photo.

Is there any easy way to do this?

I notice from the video showing the end result on Vimeo that as each new photo lands all the photos underneath show the same image / footage.

Hi TX,

Thanks for your purchase, I’m glad you like the template!

It appears that you’ve discovered a limitation of this project that I had not previously foreseen. The project was constructed mostly for use of video, rather than still photos.

But I can understand the desire to be able to see parts of the previous image underneath the newly revealed layer. In the near future I may go back and create an image-friendly version of this project.

Technically, this can be accomplished with a little bit of work, but it will take some explaining. Please contact me directly at tyson [at] motionrevolver.com, and I’ll be happy to walk you through the process.

Thanks again,

Love it! Question: Each new “photo” comes in every 5 frames. How can I slow this down so they come in every 15 or 20 frames. Thanks!

Hi Richard,

Thanks for your purchase! The appearance of a new photo every 5 frames is intentional, and it’s what creates the smooth slideshow feel. So that you’re aware, since the playback rate of the video is directly tied to the appearance of the frames, slowing the rate down to 15-20 frames will make the video play back in more of a stop-motion way.

It would require a bit of work, but it could be accomplished by following these steps:

1. Open each Scene composition in the “Step 05: Edit Scenes” folder 2. Deactivate the “Hide Shy Layers” button to reveal the hidden frame layers 3. Adjust the in-point of each layer to have a 15-20 frame delay between them

As I mentioned, this will be a little tedious, but it is possible to accomplish what you’re trying to do.

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me directly at tyson [at] motionrevolver.com

Good luck!
