No. You can use any black and white texture as a flag mask.

I just purchased this Template but can’t figure it out because it’s asking me for a missing effect “Element”. Do I have to buy a $199 plugin to edit this template. I wasted 2hrs on it and still no luck.
Yes, element3d is ae plugin.

WOW…..absolutely amazing work!! After years of being an Envato customer, this is easily the most complete, professional, high-quality template I’ve ever purchased. 3ddanp thought of everything, and included the tools to make it very user-friendly.
3ddanp gives clear/easy instruction on how to create custom flags in AE, however….
Here’s an idea/tip for those of you who prefer to design a custom flag in photoshop (3ddanp might have an easier way to describe, but this is how I did it):
- open PS and import any of the provided flags (Footage folder ….world flags folder)...this automatically sets up the proper template/specs for your design.
-design your flag over this shape (to the exact size), save as a PNG file in the “world flags” folder.
-open AE template and follow included video instructions
-right click in project area and choose “import file”...import your custom design
-simply replace flag texture with your design….WORKS PERFECT!!
(I will follow up with link to my custom flag video clip)

Does this work with Earlier versions of Elements 3D or does it have to be V2.2.0? Also, what would happen if it was an earlier version, would it not work at all, or just some features would not work?
Projects created in Element3d 2.2 will not open in Element3d 1.6.
If I purchase this from you on Envato, is it possible for you to save the project as a E3D 1.6 version and DropBox it to me? My work machine only has E3D version 1.6, and they don’t want to purchase the later E3D 2.2 version just for a Flag Animation for the video I am working on.
Sorry but I have only Element3d v2.2, so I can’t save earlier version.

My version is CS6. OMG!..
Hi, love the template. Very easy to use. BUT… Whenever I try to export it, AE crashes and then media encoder hangs. Whatever resolution. CUDA v software graphics. I have a 2 year old iMac which was top spec when bought so it aint a weak system and has 32GB RAM. Any thoughts on how to avoid problems.
Question for you: I open up the CC 2014 project in AE and it comes up with a blank light screen, no american flag like your intro, any ideas? I have up to date AE and Video Copilot. I am running everything on my MacBook Pro.
Did you relink 3d models. You should watch tutorial, there is part with that topic. If you still have a problem please send me an email.
