Is the burning background changeable? Can I add my own graphic and have it burned like paper as you have in your demo video, instead of the dark background texture?

You can but it wasn’t designed for change-able graphics, so you will need at least intermediate knowledge in after effects to do it. I didn’t really consider changing the background to be a feature, i will make sure to incorporate that in my future projects
