what a demo! many many uses, great file!
Nice stuff
i buy it!
That was AWESOME ! I love those shatters! Would make a fantastic intro or exit to most ANY video, especially for marketing companies. VERY good job man!
what programs are needed to edit and customize the file?
well CS5 comes out around April 15 retailers might drop the price on after effects CS4 you might be able to get a good deal on it then. Other than that I wouldn’t use any other program for video special effects just like I wont use anything other than photoshop for image editing After Effects is simply the best and worth the money.

I broke down and got a copy of AE CS4 and the file is VERY easy to use. I’m having to work with importing a logo from AI at a size that works well but that’s a small learning curve.
I do have two quick questions:
1) Is it easier to export the implosion and explosion versions as separate files and then use a video editor to create the final effect or is it better to link them together within AE ?
2) Where did you find the audio file used in the demo?
Thanks drewmcmanus I’m glad you like the file. In reply to your first question I would suggest that you render the explosion and implosion separately then just bring them back into after effects as footage and combine them in your desired comp. As for the audio file I made it myself using After Effects actually. I used some elements from a product called Pro Scores. You can buy it at www.videocopilot.net. This is a great site for all kinds of things related to after effects. I hope this answers all your questions if you have any more feel free to leave another comment.
Many thanks, I will do exactly what you proposed. I’m having fun using the file and the screencasts are a huge help, thanks for including those! I’ll check out pro scores too but you should consider posting the audio file you made here for at least a few bucks (or if you have and I missed it, point me in the right direction).
Last quick question: I’ve been trying to figure out how to alter the length of each individual effect but can’t seem to figure it out and I didn’t see anything about it in the tuts (although I learned plenty of other great tricks). What I’m trying to do is reduce the length of Implosion 1 to 5 seconds – any help you can offer is greatly appreciated!
I like the new avatar drewmcmanus. Yeah to change the length of the clips I suggest just simply rendering the file you want at the default speed then when you bring it back into after effects as footage you can right click on the layer and select Time,Time remap. In your specific case you might be able to get away with right clicking the layer and selecting Time,Time Stretch and then set the Stretch Factor accordingly. Thanks for bringing this up I should have included it in the video tutorials. If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask.
Many thanks, I will try all of that tomorrow.
Re the avatar, it is the logo for the service I’m launching in June for nonprofit performing arts groups. It was designed by Lauren Jordan at Blueprint Design Studios here in Chicago.
I’ll be using your implosion effort for the intro to all of the tutorial videos. I’ll also make sure to include some reference credit in a resource page at the service support site.
As a note of follow up, both suggestions worked perfectly for editing the time/length. Thanks!
