This post is just me raving and ranting, so sorry.
About a year ago we bought Vonage Phone service. The entire year we have not been able to make 1 call without it dropping. We called to have it fixed 12 times and even had technicians come over. Nothing helped. They wouldn’t allow us to cancel without paying hundreds of dollars (it was cheaper to keep it for the remainder of the year than pay it out). When we did try to cancel they were so rude. At first I was polite, but the call “dropped” (they hung up) and then they told me their computers were down (I’m sure) so they couldn’t cancel and I should call back later, I was really angry. It took 35 minutes of saying “no, just cancel my service” before they actually canceled it. They even charged a cancellation fee AFTER I waited out my contract. I just can’t imagine a company surviving with such horrible service.
Sorry about the rant, but just remember to research a company before you sign a contract. I learned my lesson.
I had Vonage for about a week. They were sooo awful. Terribly awful. The same happened to me, exact same thing. The “system was down” thing, being threatened by cancellation fees even though I never got to actually place or receive a single call, all of it. I would never sign up to their service ever again. I have been using my cable company’s VoIP service and so far it is good. They charge twice as much as Vonage for the same service which kind of sucks, but what can you do? My friends have been trying to turn me on to Skype but I am reluctant.

I tried skype and I didn’t love it so I canceled. It was for my business phone and the caller ID shows up as unavailable which didn’t work for us. When I canceled they were nice and gave me my money back. That alone makes me like them 100x more than vonage.
