I have no method so maybe someone with more brain than me can give me some piece of advice :(

Problem.

work three days at my next project, do countless of renders with AE+QuickTime+h264, project is finished, happily prepare to render the preview after two hours of picking nice photos from photodune, hit render, AE stops to render at second 8 of the movie. No error, no message no nothing, just me waiting for half an hour like a perfect idiot and then kill the process from task manager. Do ten test renders with different export method, restart computer, restart AE ten times.

Try finding an old wooden chair (cheap on eBay) and throw it! Or take your glass stuff to a recycle center and lob it as hard as you can into the glass section. Very satisfying sound :D

Boxing gloves and a full size punching bag in garage helps a lot! :D

Don’t drink alcohol or caffeine. Don’t work 16 hour shifts. Take weekends.

Ok, ok… I know, this is the media industry. Ain’t never gonna happen. (takes swig of beer to deal with the stress at 23:00 in front of the computer) :(

don’t know what could be. I run the ExpressionUniversalizer before this but I never had problem with this script. And I just have 6 simple expression (color control) in the whole project, never had problem with this type of expression either.

breaking some stuff is a good idea. I’m doing push ups right now like crazy, not working.

frame 167 again :( every time. WHY ME ?

Change (“Color”) to (1), manually. Bingo!

Find some solitude. Get away from the cute bird. Or take Rico out for a walk ;)

Something happens at frame 167 that almost certainly causes Ae to run out of RAM . I bet if you render at half res. it will be fine. I’m guessing you’re using CS4 or below, right? Are you using a gigantic image? 4000×6000 pixels, for example? Shrink it down to an optimal size. Ae hates big images… hates big comps too. Make sure all is optimized. Can you render using CS5 ? Is Disk Cache turned on? If not, turn it on. Have you checked the Secret Settings?

Also, don’t render into h.264. Don’t even render into a mov format. Render to a tiff sequence. That way, if your render bombs, you can just pick up where you left off.

Find out what happens at frame 167… which layer / comp has its in-point there. Solve that and your render will render!

Alternatively, write Frame 167 on a sheet of paper, then burn it. :D
