Why must Envato take so much?

I don’t think you understand how life works. You can’t expect Envato to just let you come here and advertise your stuff for free, and on top of that make money, can you? The money Envato takes from your selling is used to pay the staff, make up for Paypal fees, pay for server costs, pay for advertising etc etc. It’s not like the CEO of Envato is making out with all of our money. Thousands of people visit Envato and you’re going to pay for that kind of advertisement. It’s not that bad if you actually think about it.

I think they are pretty fair, i mean for me this is just a fun thing to do. I have a full time job so this is just a hobby for me, but if you are good and you want to make more money i think the opportunity is here. Just look at Triworks & DS. The possibilities are totally up to you.

Envato is probably the biggest marketplace and i have seen other places but their traffic is not even 20% of the envato market place.

Also if you see, there are always new marketplaces added to the envato network so you can sell things on each one to make your desired income.

Another new one will be added hopefully soon which is the 3D Ocean that i think will beat all the other 3d selling sites just because of the price of the files.

A lot of people buy files here because of quality and the price, and i know that everyone thinks like that when they are purchasing an item or more items.

Think of this way, you’re pretty much advertising your templates, scripts etc… except, in the process you’re also making money. Anywhere you advertise your website, you’re going to pay for it. I think it’s a pretty fair deal.

there was a post talking about average daily bandwidth across all the networks – and if you did a quick calculation from amazons S3 pricing page you start to think how they can even afford that.

I hope people don’t get me wrong. This is just a thought…And I appreciate what Envato does for everyone.

I saw that somewhere, too. I’d really love to see how much they actually use; it’d be very interesting.

+1 – Not only Envato provides a huge exposure for each of your files to 1000s if not 10000s potential buyers, but they provide a huge exposure for YOU . It is an outstanding chance to show what you can do to a lot of people in the web industry, which in turn can drive freelance work your way, build a decent clients database etc…

I would like to live in a world where whenever I sell a 10$ file I get 100$ from Envato and a e-mail from the staff telling me “Wow man, you’re so awesome, thank you for sharing with us your gift, we are honored to host your files. Every second YOU are on our humble site it’s a bliss”.
Unfortunately this is not possible

There are sites that take less and sites that take more, there are sites where you have to pay to be hosted, not as percentage from selling. I have some of my stuff on another site that take less percentage, those are staying there for almost two years and I have not a single sell. Here I uploaded a file just to check it out and in the next 20 minutes after approval got sold.
