I don’t know about you but recently I’m seeing a massive increase in items being placed in wrong genres.
This seriously affects the buyers browsing through the site, as they are listening to poorly placed items, and thus finding the wrong styles.
Just because one item features a traditional instrument does not make it a traditional song, nor does it make it “world”. etc
Most of my concerns rest with the genre Corporate/ Motivational. Half of these items listed here are not motivational peices. People are placing items here because they know it’s the most sold genre. You’re only adding to the cluster of messy items.
Someone needs to take the time to re-categorize some items that have been poorly placed in the wrong genres. Although this will take some time, it will be a massive improvement. An organized genre is a better genre. Members can then browse a genre and actually listen to that genre.
I’m not blaming the reviewers by anymeans here, but clearly they are overlooking the genres. Most can/will argue that some music have mixed styles, thus being a mixed genre. But you typically take the most prominent genre in the music and categorize it that way. In some cases having a mixed style can actually change the entire genre of the song.
Of course, buyers can use the search feature, and the tags system will hopefully dig up what they are looking for. But my point here is with the “browsing” feature of this site. It’s messy, unorganized and unrelated.

I agree that there should be tighter control on genres, however at the same time I would tend to think tags and descriptions pull more weight overall. In a way, though the corporate section may be more crowded and some songs misclassified, in my mind it actually benefit those who properly classify and tag their songs.
When I am a buyer, other then the obvious frustration factor, if I am looking for something and it’s not in the place it should be, it takes me about .5 seconds before I shut it down and move on…if anything, people should realize that miss-classification will actually hurt them and everyone else in the long run.

Hey guys,
Part of the reviewing process is to look at the genre obviously. If we agree with what the author has chosen, we stick with that genre, but if we disagree we obviously select the most appropriate genre. Sometimes it can be difficult however to select a comprehensive genre when it falls between multiple genres/styles of music so we just have to make the best call possible. I disagree that “most of the items here are placed in the wrong genre”, it sounds rather extreme.
If you do encounter any totally misleading examples of genres, you are more than welcome to write to me directly (sitemanager@audiojungle.net) or you can open a support ticket. Please DO NOT post them in the forums with specific examples. Many thanks for the feedback!

I can see your guys view on it, but then again I do agree with Scott. It’s really hard to pick out certain genres for music that uses different aspects from genres (it gets even more messy when trying to figure out sub-genres).
But you have to also look at it this way, a genre is just a descriptive word that people use to attempt to identify sound. So, in a sense, it depends on that persons view of a track. I compose orchestral work for AJ and sometimes I have a hard time deciding which area to put my music. I have one track (not going to mention names so it doesn’t get viewed as self promotion) that I thought was more of a horror/drama track. But it also had elements of action/adventure and fantasy in it.
My point is, it’s a very tough choice sometimes on how to view the track. I think what most reviewers do (or at least me anyway) is they look at the TAGS used to describe the track (which the user uploading selects) and listens to the track, taking into account the TAGS the user has chosen. If they fit, they will most likely tend to lean towards the genre the user had chosen beforehand, if not, they will most likely lean toward finding a better genre for the track.
I probably made that very confusing
So, sorry if it did haha. Best wishes to all!

Thanks for the feedback, Derek.
For the record, Jordan / JSBond found some examples that were incorrectly classified which we will be taking care of. Thanks again, Jordan!
It’s a caring community and feedback like this that makes AJ so awesome.

Then this would be listed as “Cinematic”, as that genre appeals to both cinematic horror/drama and cinematic action/adventure genres. If you have a peice of music with just Horror elements in, then the sub category, “Horror/Drama” would be used.
Thanks for the feedback, Derek.![]()

No problem Scott, and thank you! I’d be happy to help AJ again, it’s not a problem.
Thanks again

Yeah, I believe that’s what I listed it as, but some people like to make more specific searches and what not.
Anyways, either way, it’s all good feedback for everyone
“corporate” is not a music style!

I see what you’re saying, biala, but that’s why we probably call it a “category” rather than a genre. Corporate and motivational tracks are something that’s quite popular for our customers so it makes sense to have its own category and put all those similar types of tracks in one place.
