Hi everyone,

Wanted to know what all the video authors think of the pricing structure of FD’s video section? Seems like its getting to the stage where a bit more structure is needed, or some price changes. Currently we have all resolutions, types of videos and AE projects mixed together. The prices are pretty low, and while that makes FD competitive, i think if some sort of pricing structure was established it would be easier for customers to find what they are after as well as give authors a bit more for their product.

Something like splitting content into SD, HD, AE projects and various sections within each (e.g. motion backgrounds and video elements, transitions etc) and applying a sliding price structure. HD motion backgrounds typically sell for $40 or more on other stock sites so bumping up the price a little will still make FD one of the most affordable options.

Post up what you think or any suggestions you have for the FD video section.

I wonder if Envato has thought of separating the Video from FD and creating its own site like AJ and TF … I believe if they did that, there would be alot of changes and things would be pick up pretty quickly.

there isnt enough quality video files to justify that. alot of the files in the video section are kinda well…not so great.

The quality thing is a point. Quality control would have to be a consideration in any update of course.

i just wanted to write a mail to the support about some of those issues.

anyway, nice to see the discussion in the forum.

1) better structure: - i’m new to flashden. but i think the video section was created for video loops an translations to support flash projects. of course theres alot of such stuff. but I see the video section evolving to a place for all kinds of video footage. and i think it would be good to rethink this section for its future.

2) a AE section would be nice.

3) let us specify if the video comes with a alpha channel!

4) I don`t think, the price should be significant higher (and mark does a good job on pricing). But I think resolution could make a bigger impact. (It would be also nice for customers to show only hd or sd content in the search). I would also like to specify if my file is just one clip or a pack of clips. In generall I think the price is right for simple, small clips – but great packages, videos with alpha channels HD stuff etc (read: footage which can be used in motion graphics projects and not just for flash) may could be priced higher.

5) I don’t realy think there is enough hiquality material right now to make the video section to a single site. But i think it has great potential to become one!

cheers :)

All good points guys. I agree that additional structuring is needed. In terms of categories, and pricing foundation. I can tell you guys that pricing is based on a number of things. SD – HD used to be a big part but now 90% of the videos that come in are in HD…SD will be priced lower but I rarely see SD submissions. If a file is some type of animation…if its only provided with one color, that is a limiting factor…of course packs get more of a range…and the highest priced ones are the project files…as they should be.

I understand that other sites may sell background animations for $40 bucks…but as a video marketplace inside a much larger flash marketplaces…a big part of the buyers are not really here specifically for video at first…I feel, and always have felt that higher priced videos may suffer. I have had videos of my own priced at $8, and I felt they were worth it…it didnt sell 1 time in 2 months…I lowered the price to $6, and the next day it started selling, so price point is HUGE here.
