felt_tips saidI had more sales last weekend than I’ve had during this workday week. I hope it’s just a weird lazy summer.
Also, for the first time since I can remember, Videohive has a falling traffic ranking (since early this year). http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/videohive.net I wonder what that’s all about. Competition? Or just a fall off in the global economy?
I’m always confused when I think of videohive’s competition. All other well ranked video-stock sites appear to sell their files a good $50 more than a similar videohive file. Even lower-than-HD versions are more expensive. I guess videohive doesn’t have the volume of items they do but it manages a better traffic rating through lower prices… That said why aren’t those other sites out of business yet if videohive is much more gentle on a buyer’s wallet? And on that point why are videohive’s files so less expensive compared to other sites? :/
I guess since Envato makes most of its money off ThemeForest, they’re able to lower videohive prices to be extremely competitive, but it still seems like a big gap to other site’s pricepoints.

I expect that Videohive sells more than most other sites.
But also, you have to understand that if it’s a business looking for a template then if they found a site with a higher proportion of high quality stuff or a better sorting mechanism that saves them time… or simply make the assumption that because it’s more expensive it might be better, then they won’t think twice about spending an extra $20, $50 or even $100 on a template. In most parts of the commercial world, those kinds of sums of money are more or less peanuts.

Incidentally, I think it would be a great idea for Videohive to start off a higher priced category with carefully hand-picked, top-notch stuff. It might attract a whole other audience. Buyer #1, Graphic444 has requested a similar thing many times over. Busy people with a budget simply don’t have time to separate the wheat from the chaff.
I completely agree with you felt_tips. From a new author point of view, having an “elite” or “premium” category to reach as a personal goal for each file produced could also motivate a constant increase in quality of the files.

+1
If a higher quality section has been requested by buyers, then this elite/premium category just needs to be an expanded and improved version of the existing “Weekly Features” section. I just wish that overall prices were bumped up a bit, having in mind that other known sites ask for much more for similar files.
Whatever happens, maybe the most likely outcome is that videohive’s top authors will be able to throttle up the prices of their items, similar to what happened on themeforest recently.
(this discussion is interesting, just hope it’s not corrupting the thread’s original purpose)

If they will make a category of ’’files made by elite authors’’ this will totaly exterminate authors without that badge.

I don’t think it should be related to elite authors.

I think “Elite” does not always mean qualitative.. it could easily be a measurement of time as in “author has been here for xxx years, thus he made xxx projects and it was a matter of time to gather the sales needed for elite”. I agree it should not be based upon the badge. Badges are more like pinpoints (is this the word?) of events that happened at certain time. One could hardly judge quality that way.
