I’ve modified my ticket support system to add an automatic link at the bottom of emails reminding people to rate the item. I include this when I get a happy customer (likely to leave good rating) and I delete this when I’m responding to a nasty customer (ie: one who tries to use the item outside of it’s listed features). I get many “Thanks! Just given you 5 stars!” replies :)
Terrific strategy. I’m going to start doing this.

Win!

Alternatively you could murder your buyers afterwards. I mean you have a gun strapped your thigh and you look in pretty good shape. Although you need a shave. I need to get back to work…

Me neither. :) Although i should add that after a couple of days without any sale, suddenly i got one right after posting the animated gif. Do you think buyers values our sense of humour on public forum?

Yes. And after this thread I expect all who’ve commented to have increased sales and higher ratings (you’re welcome :P )

That animated gif is awesome btw… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pppeine3xC8

Feedbacks and ratings are bizarre subject, too many variables involved. With my personal experience and observation from few (small) files, I came to a conclusion that I can never understand how to maintain 5* or improve the number of ratings leave by buyers.

Stopped with following conclusion to avoid further mental disorders: :)

- Stressful living = Quality file + Support with Rating fear
- Better living = Quality file + Support only to improve the file + Forget rating
- Better living = Quality file + Item description showing “NO Technical Support” + Forget rating

So Quality file + Forget rating is good combo ;)

I think one very important factor is wheather the buyers can do what they expect can be done when looking at the demo (some people will expect that they should be able to do anything). When potential buyers are looking for themes, they probably have a pretty good idea of how they want their site to look like/feel and what features they need.

Whenever I help someone by e-mail, I kindly ask them to rate it. In the documentation, I ask the buyer to contact me if they for some reason don’t want to give a 5 star rating. I thought this would lead to lots of e-mails, but it actually hasn’t… (With that being said; I just started selling and I have less than 200 sales).

Anyway, i don’t one customer will think twice to buy a file even if it’s rated on 4. But maybe 3 makes a difference regarding customers fears.

I agree. At least here on AD I don’t believe there’s much difference in customer experience regarding 4-star or 5-star files. I could be wrong, I’m not a well-weathered buyer around here, but I don’t think it really changes sales drastically.
