I’ve made a simple site template which got rejected. Template
“This File Did Not Meet Our Criteria

Could you give me some advice how I can improve it?

It’s fairly plain, consider adding: some type of bullet to each section and its content, padding to the content in the sidebar (you can achieve the same effect with CSS instead of tables).
Add and style more content(various types of lists, headings, images with various alignments) in the main section. I’d also style the submit button in the contact page.

To keep it simple and short, you should take some time looking at some of the popular and high selling templates here and even checking out sites like cssremix.com, faveup.com, etc. to see what other’s have done on fantastic designs.
I think that would be the best way to get an idea for what ThemeForest is looking for.

Don’t use tables for your layout at all. It’s okay if you need them for actual tabular content but never use them for layout any more.

@CreatingDrew: Oh no, Im pretty sure that table based layout would a BIG problem for reviewers.:) What I tried to say was, that you can use tables, e.g for some small personal project, If you are amateur and you just dont care… But if you want to sell your work online, tables are unacceptable hope that makes it clearer

Are you sure about that? I would have a hard time believing the reviewers would accept a template that uses tables for layout.There is actually at least one template that I know of which uses tables throughout and it has sold 28 times. It’s never been said that they don’t except templates using tables but I highly recommend using CSS .
