Hi Guys, I have a question.

let’s say that I started to create another category in my blog that selects some files from the envato marketplace (and other stock sites too) on a weekly basis.

is it ok for me to link pictures from envato? or I can screenshot the previews and include it in my blog post(this will inevitably include envato’s logo somewhere on the piece, like all previews are)? should I contact the authors individually and ask for preview screenshot(excluding envato logo on previews)?

of course the items will still be billed as coming from envato, with links the proper way to take readers here.

I kindly wait for answer.

thanks a lot

You are more then welcome to do so. It will be a new traffic source for the envato`s websites, so they should be happy about it.

Uhm, I would suggest you to contact the individual authors and ask permission before doing this. Just to be sure.

Someone may think that you are earning on the authors work without doing anything. A good thing might be to write a small review of the items and link them, that might be interesting. :)

Feel free to link my items :) Traffic to my portfolio is more important than referals for me.

In my opinion, referals don’t really play a big role regarding where the big bucks are made. I’d say the extra publicity those authors would be getting is worth more than the referals you’re recieving from it – if you, hypothetically, were to want to use a preview of any of my files, don’t hesitate :D

I guess it’s up to you if you want to spend some time on this but to be completely honest, if I were you I wouldnt waste your time.

The referral market is pretty much dead, when it first kicked in people were making more or as much money from referrals as they were sales, but those days are long gone. The market is already saturated, but if you think you can reach new blood then go for it!

Oh and yeh, just give the authors a quick shout before you do, just as a matter of courtesy. No need to alter previews/screenshots etc.

Good luck :)

Envato make most item details (including previews) available through their developer API , so yes, you’d be more than welcome to.

As you say, you’re not re-distributing the items, or claiming they are yours in any way.

:D

yeah, the earnings will be small, but my blog would probably benefit from the extra traffic too, so that’s why I’m thinking of doing it. it’d be just nice to display collections of useful files somewhere else, especially since there is an API that allows to pull some data/images.

so I think I’ll write something once a week for this, spend a few minutes :D
