I have seen that many great authors with many sales and quality works have got a lot of problems with people unreasonably rating the files with a low (ex.: 1star) rating…
I would say that this problem should be solved as a 4 stra rating looses a lot of reputation in the eyes of the buyers…
My idea is that you would have to give a reason of a rating you make, the author the would have an admin panel, where he would be able to check the ratings&reasons and report it to the FD support in case of unreasonable, low ratings…
What do you thin about it?

OR, get people to rate more files. So the more people vote, the less the one ore two nuts matter in the whole picture.
And knowing what specific people rated your file, isn’t that conflicting with privacy in some way?
But I like the idea,
since some of my files have been purchased a couple of times, but haven’t been rated.
Wow…just thought I’d bring up this topic
anywayz…I agree to u guyz…there may not be reasons to like something but to dislike something, there is always a reason… and the authors would surely want to know that…
in addition to above suggestions, some predefined answers would be nice for those who wants to make quick rating..
i agree, something like a ebay feedback would be great. Still 4 out of 5 is not bad!
the ebay system would be a good idea, but like ebay you should give the customer a month to decide how they want to rate their purchase. also there are some people who have made a lot of sales but their responses or lack there of, don’t garner a 5 star rating. i don’t care if you make a $2 file, you should still have the decency to respond to posts and emails … i have not ran into a situation like that personally, but i have seen where some files have issues and the creators haven’t responded in months … how are they to be rated?
Not bad ideas here.
I’m not too worried about the occasional 4/5 stars on a project. This is because your rating will be rounded off anyway. For example, if your rating is really something like 4.6/5 it looks like a perfect 5/5 to your customers!

Well in my opinion its tough. Because I like rating files what they truly deserve. And this doesn’t really apply but if you look into the hip hop world, the source magazine (which is pretty much the largest hip hop magazine) gives albums ratings in the form of “Mics” (stars) and when an album gets 5 “mics” its considered legendary…and usually is. Very few albums in hip hop history have ever received 5 mics. And I look at it the same way. I have given out 5 stars, but I don’t like to throw them around. The FD star system is losing value faster than the USD
I mean its close to impossible to keep a 5 star rating for your whole account, all you need is one person to rate it a 1, and bam, your screwed. Which is why I dont expect 5 stars, if I get 4 I’m happy. And I personally dont rate it based on just how nice of a file it it is. I base my ratings on how accurate/non-misleading the description was…how good the file is, if its sloppy or neat, and how well documented it is.

...Yes a problem that plagues most review systems; 5 stars can mean different things to different people.
One way around this would be to use a boolean rating system. In other words, the only options are: “Liked the file” “Didn’t like the file”
The 1-5 star rating could still exist, but it would be an average of the more simple ratings.
However, i think the best advice is to not worry if your rating isn’t perfect. Your customers don’t buy files based on ratings alone.

But then again 90% of the people that buy my files, dont rate them…so whatever lol
