Hello everyone

I would like to clear a few things up regarding the “self promotion” thing i ( and others ) got blamed for. After i read all the Wiki / terms and conditions etc. im still confused.

  1. If request has been posted in the froum “seeking for a drone”. Is it allowed to answer and link to own files ? If no, why do you allow users to post such requests ?
  2. A potentional customer ask’s : “who has the extended license on their files? ”. Is it fine to post a link to his own ( ot other’s ) portfolio ?

I absolutely agree on the fact, that if you would allow self promotion, the forum will end up with useless threads of people promoting their files. Also the fact, that you want to avoid customers get in direct contact with the author for business reason. But after all that, sometimes it’s hard to draw the line at the right point. I would love to hear some critique of my fellow musicians on AJ on some files or video’s. Maybe im asking to much, but how about a “authors only” forum for such threads where we could exchange knowledge and ideas on files ?

I wish you all a great day and hope you dont missunderstand my questions.

Daniel

I agree that self-promotion on the forum needs to be cleared up, and some strict rules enforced. Threads like you’ve mentioned haven’t been locked or deleted, and site managers have posted on them threads. On that basis, if no-one was warned, then site managers do not have a problem with it.

Maybe self-promotion on the Envato marketplaces means creating a new thread, for yourself, and get people to buy your files, which is not a help to anyone.

I think that’s why the Item Requests thread was created – so customers could ask authors about music/files they want. And I have always allowed you guys to respond to those type of threads with links to your files. :) It’s just about using common sense. If someone starts a thread in the main AudioJungle lobby about Daft Punk for example, and then someone responds with, “Oh, I have a song that sounds like Daft Punk, here’s the link!”, then that is blatant self promotion.

I hope that answers your question, but I’ll ask one of the support gurus to swing-by and see if they can offer any additional information/help for you. :)

Hi Scott:

I have one question, I have posted some weeks ago my track collections in the ” item discussion” forums:

http://audiojungle.net/forums/thread/my-first-cinematic-collection/22911

http://audiojungle.net/forums/thread/sonicbytes-never-sold-before-collection/23605

I think is fine what I did, but is that allowed ?

Thanks

Hey everyone!

I’m sorry I missed this earlier, Scott has it absolutely right :)

Basically, we don’t allow linking to ones own items on the forum, we try to be pretty strict about it as otherwise we’d be over run with self promotion. We might miss a few every once in a while so if you ever see something you feel isn’t allowed please feel free to message me anytime.

We do allow links to items in the item discussion section to your own items as long as the post is related to the discussion and not just blatant link dropping. So, if in the item discussion section someone requests an item and you feel like one of yours actually would be a good fit, you may go ahead and link to it explaining why you feel they may enjoy it.

Those threads are ok and would fall under what I touched on above, the item discussion section is appropriate for the topics you have posted and it’s obvious you were looking for ways to improve as opposed to link dropping.

So to be clear, linking to your own files is against the rules, except in special cases in the item discussion section when it is genuinely warranted :)

Any questions don’t hesitate to ask myself, Scott, or any staff member :)
