I’ve seen that some new projects are being accepted/sold in CS5 Only lately; I’d just like to request that projects be in CS4 since many of us may not have CS5 yet… other buyers, speak out? I’ve seen recent comments from some asking for only up through CS3 in fact.

I personally have no plans to upgrade to CS5 til much later this year if at all; not sure how many buyers are using CS5 or want projects done in CS5 . Are there that many new features that can only be created in CS5 ? I doubt it. For best sales, I’d recommend sticking with CS4 for now if you can. Or at least include both CS4 and CS5 versions. I don’t know of any bestselling cs5 projects, probably because most buyers or at least half of us don’t even have that version of AE yet.

maybe other buyers can chime in – how many of you would prefer to continue seeing projects in CS4 ?

The question with CS5 is not new features. It’s simply that it’s much, much faster and smoother to work with. Once you’ve gone over to CS5 it’s really hard to go back. It certainly takes a lot longer to make a project in CS4 and that’s why some authors aren’t using it, I guess.

I’m a bit of a sceptic as you know when it comes to upgrading for new features. But if you have a 64 bit OS I would recommend this upgrade above all others. You will make the cost back in a matter of weeks on workflow savings.

The only downside is (and this was why it took me a few months to go over to CS5 ) that you also need to upgrade all your plug-ins to 64bit. Yowch. If you have a lot of plug-ins, it’s quite an expensive upgrade. On the other hand, if you intend to continue using After Effects, you’re going to have to do it sometime.

Re the interim CS 5 .5, I’ll probably skip that and wait for CS6 .

I agree with Felt. From an author’s standpoint, CS4 doesn’t hold a candle to CS5 in terms of speed. All features aside, the 64-bit capability singlehandedly makes CS5 worth having, and should be adopted as soon as possible by anyone who runs a 64-bit OS.

I personally will continue creating all of my projects in CS3 , simply because that provides the greatest range of options for buyers, but upgrading to CS5 should definitely be on the list for anyone who uses After Effects on a regular basis. Since I’ve started using After Effects from wayyyyy back in version 4.1, CS5 is probably the only version that I would consider as a mandatory upgrade from it’s predecessor.

The boost in preview renders, workflow and render speeds are just simply phenomenal. For example, I was creating a massive project for Disney, which was taking about 14 hours to render in AE CS3 . I just happened to upgrade to CS5 halfway through the project, and when I switched, that same 14-hour render dropped to 30 minutes total. It completely blew my mind.

Basically, if you want to get more done faster and more efficiently, get yourself a copy of CS5 !

I’ll also most likely skip CS5 .5 and wait for CS6 , since there doesn’t seem to be any features in 5.5 that I use professionally (although it would be fun to mess with that Warp Stabilizer!).

Sorry Efekt, I need to speak and there is huuuuge reason for that. After CS5 was released I didn`t think that we (my company) should move towards it. Why?! Because I was thinking that probably Is buggy, gruggy, sluggy and so. But we recently (about month ago) build project with some 4k videos with some kinda zoom`s and pan`s and so on,. . . and that project was intended to be project with “daily render” schedule. On CS4 we manage to bring down render time @ about 4-8 hours and that sounded ( and It still sounds ) paintfull. After we moved project for CS5 ,. . . guess what,. . . render time was 30-45 min. So,. . . If you calculate you will see enormous amount of saved time.

And as Tyson mentioned it`s totally “mind blowiiiiing”

CS5 is simply pumping out maximum of your ram and your CPU .

That`s why CS5 is “life saver”

When I render with AECS4 I use multiprocessing render, and in task manager it used up all of my CPU and almost all ram.

Would CS5 , using the same amount, be still faster on rendering time?

I agree with Videomaster, you can work more effectively in CS5 .

@vaynah CS5 is a 64bit application, so yes! It will render faster.

If you have Core2D and 2GB of ram you probably wont notice any kind of rendering improvements. But If we talk about Core2D (or i5, i7) and more than 4GB of ram, You`ll be astonished. Simply 64bit application can use all your RAM (more than 4GB in case of 32bit application).
