I’ve been toying around with Waves PAZ Analyzer and I’m noticing that all of my guitar tracks are showing a lot of anti phase on both sides. Generally, I always double my guitar track and pan hard left / right. The parts are played pretty well with each other and sometimes I change up the sounds on my eleven rack so that both tracks do not have the same eq and amp settings.
So last night I started retracking my guitar again, and this time I noticed when I mute one of the tracks that is panned hard left or right, there is no phase issues, but once I unmute the other track, there become a lot of anti phasing on both left and right sides. To do a test, I even took one of the original guitar tracks, duplicated and panned opposite and still there is anti-phasing issues.
Has anyone encountered this type of problem before? IF so what do you suggest I should do, or is this normal?
You could try inverting the phase f one of the tracks (most EQs have this option), or shift one track back or forward a little, or if you have the right plugin (like ozone) you could rotate the phase of one track to try to get it phase.
if these guitar tracks are exactly the same,a duplicate, probably while duplicating and pasting, one of the tracks moved slightly (it usually happens in Logic Pro), so you get anti phase. always listen in mono to check is there any antiphase .
making different eq will not help ,since the essence is the same, and phase is determined with peaks inside the wave, not the eq

I inverted the phasing of one of the tracks and it seems to cancel each other out.
I don’t understand how there can be phasing when you duplicate the same track and just pan it the opposite direction 100%... why would there be phasing issues?
Yes, the exact duplicate one is odd. Are you still getting the issue if you have do effects applied?
Sounds like they are in phase then if inverting the track cancels it out. Try the mono trick and if it Sounds good, then it is good.
do you have any effect on some of these channels ? some effects can cause slight latency
There is no effects at all. I recorded with no reverb, delay or any other type of special effects. I generally add those in later on once I have all the other tracks recorded.
There is no effects at all so I’m just kinda boggled why analyzer is showing anti phasing when even after duplicated the track itself and panning opposite, it’s show anti phase… I can hear everything pretty well in mono. Only thing I have is 2 guitar tracks and also running superior drummer.
The harmonics of the guitar will always introduce slight amounts of phasing when doubling guitars. The paz analyzer is very touchy with these issues. It does not mean you are “out of phase”. The true test is listening to it in mono as Kris said. If you do not hear cancellation in mono, then you are probably ok. Actually it is part of the effect of doubling guitars, to get that slight phase effect.
