@ThemeProvince And that is what? A side meta?
Yes, a meta box with context set to the side.

I made the same thing:

Please continue with your idea on create your own template system. How to i make this pages that have the meta set to go a particular file?

Agreed but we have blog templates and portfolio templates ( page templates both ) and we cannot exclude them + we hate shortcodes and we did not take that approach with the “template builder”

The shortcodes are just an example of modular contents :)

Btw, for what I think, if you have a template builder you don’t need templates already defined.

It should work like this:

Plain page -> add blog module

Plain page -> add portfolio module

If the template builder that you have in mind can’t edit the blog and portfolio templates just state that in the help, make it work just with the default template…

If you don’t alert people about that, then they would start to add modules to a blog template to then see their work voided by your script. So, just don’t allow the builder to those templates.
I saw that approach but i dislike it because i think about user friendly and shortcodes with a lot of params are not user friendly. Thanks for the advices :)

I’m not talking about shortcodes… in any case the params would be needed by the builder too… if you have interfaces to create shortcodes/modules I don’t see why they’re not user friendly :)

Mmm, doing like this you don’t have a modular template builder… basically you’re duplicating the templates selection of WP… but maybe I don’t get what you want to do… :p

Now i get it. My bad. :) I created something simpler in code length and in use.

Create multiple front page layouts and apply them to a page. That is the basic.
EDIT : without writing any files.

What’s the difference with creating multiple different front page layout templates using the standard way?

Sorry if I still don’t get it :)

You create a page template for each front page template that you need…

You create a page template for each front page template that you need…
And you control them with the backend. But what if you want to move the elements around and create multiple instances with different settings? I had those requests..
