Guys I am really bemused and I hope am probably missing something really obvious…

Need your help please.

Please except my apologies for my ‘noobnes’ on this, I am an illustrator / photoshop master who is dipping his toes into AE!!

I have purchased a couple of logo sting templates and followed the instructions etc.

All plays perfectly in RAM preview etc, but when I render into .mov (settings best/lossles) – the playback starts ok, then stops and then almost jumps to the end?

Not only this, after AE has completely finished rendering the movie, it seems to slow my whole mac up??

I have a 2011, i7, 3.4 GHZ , 8GB ram (16GB on its way out of frustration!!) 27” imac.

Is there a step I am missing here? Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks for your time in advance :-)

its most likely because you are rendering in a lossless(animation) codec. You could easily just change the output module to h.264 or go into your quicktime settings and change the codec to h.264 or apple prores or something else. Doing this will make your video play smoother on your machine.

Believe me your video is playing 100% fine in your codec… your problem is your computer is just not fast enough for that codec so it looks like the video is having a problem but its just your computer isn’t fast enough.

I’ve recently faced an issue like that.

The problem could be in your quicktime player version. If it’s the latest one, which is 7.7.1, try the following:

  1. Uninstall quicktime player;
  2. Google quicktime 7.6.2;
  3. Install it.

This should help with lags.

Although, those lags shouldn’t affect the result of your renders.

Butlerm was right about “loseless” thing. But still.. I find it most effective option for a final render, because afterwards you are able to convert your “loseless” video to any other format trying different types of compressions to suit your needs. That saves time, man :)
