Just curious to see what other authors views are on double dipping. While it sounds like a good idea having a plugin under multiple categories I think it may actually have a negative effect due to the pricing structure on CodeCanyon.

For instance a plugin that sells for around $20 in the WordPress category sells for less than 50% of that in the jQuery category. Whats to stop people from just buying the cheaper version and taking a few extra steps to make it work on WP? Thus you are loosing all that potential profit to the price difference.

Going forward I see a better way of double dipping would be to include a stand alone AND a wordpress version of the plugin together so you can keep the price point that makes sense and not loose out.

Are there any other plugin authors that have noticed this?

by using 2 items you’re basicly offering same component for 2 different prices

buyers willing to use it within wp would happily pay 10 bucks more for easy install/backend admin page while others only interested in the jquery plugin won’t be forced to buy the more expensive version

including both of them in a single item is not a good idea imho, you’d keep the higher price only but most likely end up having less sales.

I think it would be most effective cross-marketplace. There are quite a few theme designers that submit JavaScript that they used in a theme. I don’t know how successful they are, but I would think it would be more successful than double dipping in the same marketplace.

I guess on TF and CC you could make it work.

My sales remain the same but yet the profits dip when I introduced a JQ version. Are we aloud to request a name change of our items as a one time thing?

if your allowed to “double dip” (i guess that means make a version with wordpress and another freestanding) does that mean you can make a lite version that has less features?

I think you can do a light version as long ad the two vastly outweigh eachother. Your better off doing a light version on CC and try to parlay the traffic to your own “pro” version that you sell on your own site. The only issue is getting the traffic to your own site.
