It’s sad to see Flash dying, no? Who would have thought..

The other day I was thinking about all those big guys that were my heros… people that dedicated the whole professional life to become a flash master. I was sad thinking about all these wasted brains… hope they all will use their beautiful intelligence for something else…

Cheers Adobe….

Meh, I miss so much the good old times when Flash was still owned by Macromedia. You could animate anything in a few minutes, compile and deliver it 1:1 on every damn browser and device. It was easy, fast, reliable.

Apple broke the magic. But I still have Flash into my essence and will keep building animated, interactive stuff with what we have today: HTML5 , CSS3, jQuery and all weird gugas popping out everyday to normalize, hack and fix glitches. You can export simple stuff from Flash to HTML5 now with CreateJS which spits out underpowered Canvas Render.

We have also WebGL, but again for some reason it doesn’t work on Mobile Safari unless you use iAds. Again Apple limiting business for squeezing out all the money. You must be really silly to love such a company.

Was a plugin really that terrible? Did you notice Apple uses Quicktime plugin on their site, isn’t that stupid? That’s what propaganda does.

My 2¢ Worth

I’m certainly not anywhere near the same stratosphere or even in the same galaxy! with you gentleman when it comes to sales and that’s precisely why your comments are so important and should be seen as so by the powers that be at Activeden. I’m just not sure that reducing prices on Activeden is the answer because an inherent law of economics is that when a market is slow and inventory is high, demand falls. I would think that is the pertinent question for a business to contemplate in such a time. My humble observations are such that I see far too many of the same types ( and styles) of files placed on the top of the stack at Activeden everyday thus contributing to a bulging inventory of unoriginal sameness. I mean I realize that everyone wants to market their new Flash flipping book or banner rotator but, realistically how many are actually needed by the buying public.

I'm also not sure that I agree with you entirely when you say Flash is doomed...that's a pretty bold statement. I can't read crystal balls to foresee what the next inovation or lack thereof by Adobe ( or anyone else) will be in the future but one thing I do know is that I agree very much with you when you say that it ( Flash) is a very powerful creative tool. My thoughts are that a closer look should be taken by Activeden when it comes to design and originality and creativity for each file that is added that are placed in the same category. A lack of creativity in the design will kill a great product every time. The old adage that Form Follows Function isn't correct in my view, but they should both be at least of equal weight and value, compliment each other and hopefully in the end become as one.

Last but not least is promotion. I will admit right up front that I have absolutely no idea whatsoever in in the world as to how to go about it but I mean Envato is after all is said and done a business and if a business or a product isn’t advertised in a way that will at least make the public aware of it’s existence then that is a sure fire way to doom in the long run.

“Without promotion something terrible happens… Nothing!” PT Barnum.

Late to the party, but I have to agree with DS 100 %. Two examples:

1) AD templates are the same price as TF. Slash the price in half and give the buyer a reason to thumb their nose at mobile.

2) CodeCanyon components are waaay cheaper than AD components! This one’s a no-brainer.

As much as we all know “Flash is dead, blah blah”, D.S. is right, people are still buying. A lot of people? No. But some people nevertheless. So there’s no point just giving up completely. Make some price cuts, run an “AD is slashing prices” banner on the marketplaces for a few days, and see what happens! You can’t catch a fish if you never throw your reel in the water.

Well I’m not sure what the real elite are doing, but personally I think the best files on CC are by former AD boys. A year ago we had much more to complain about, but browsers are getting faster and people are caring less and less about older browsers every day. Yeah JavaScript isn’t as nice to work with as AS3 was, but the end result gap is getting smaller. And in a few years when IE9 is the “old IE” things are going to be a lot brighter for former Flashers.

I’ve read the post here and I want to share two galleries which I made in html5 , I got the idea from the flash versions which I made a while back, I can tell you that html5 is not as bad as it sounds, actually this galleries are kinda complex and a lot of code is used, the performance is incredible on desktop and mobile using CSS3 . All I can say that I can do 99% of what I use to do in flash with HTML5 , it is a painful process and a lot of bugs and testing but it works in the end this is what matters. I did not get a lot of sales with this galleries but I am sure I will in the near future. Anyway check them out below.
