Hi -

I’m working on a new site, and want to design a cool header, would have carbon-type background with a large rectangular chrome boundary box at top (10 px border)...

something like this, but with good looking chrome instead of plain white box:

Any ideas on how to design that, using PS styles (or, preferably in fireworks)? I’ve bought almost all the metallic styles here from those of you who make them; not sure how to make a great professional looking chrome-border box (with alpha middle, for me to put text etc in). I’m new to using photoshop, though I’ve used fireworks for 10+ years; it does’nt look professional though in just swapping out chrome texture map in fireworks. Any ideas? thanks!

Can’t say anything about fireworks but to do it in Photoshop, in the Layer Styles, first apply a chrome gradient in ‘Stroke’ pane, then go to ‘Bevel and Emboss’ pane, below ‘Structure’ heading, there’s a dropdown menu labeled ‘Style’. Choose ‘Stroke Emboss’ from it and then play with the size and depth values.

You can try it by applying the layer styles you’ve bought here and removing all the other effects inside ‘Layer Styles’ except ‘Stroke’ and ‘Bevel and Emboss’ and then change their values as I have suggested. I’m not 100% sure if you will get what you want but it won’t hurt trying it either.
