aaranmcguire saidHow could they enforce that? Unless there is some sort of Google-specific router with that security built in.
iapcsolutions saidIm unsure but I bet google will require to put a password on the wifi.
I live 3 hours away from KC and go to football games all of the time. I may roll down some neighborhoods and look for open WIFI networks to try it out LOL J /K
It is googles router… yh you could add another onto it but how many people would do that… plus i’m not sure what USA internet is normally like but i bet because of the 1GB they have a special cable for the internet input. they do in the UK but were getting 100Mb/s
Edit: http://www.theverge.com/2012/7/26/3189204/google-fiber-tv-hardware-photos#3597296 some photos of the hardware..

Cool, didn’t realize there was a specific router/hardware required
Does this mean I can upgrade my Google TiSP?

I am right in saying that was an Aprils Fool day prank right? and Google Fiber is for Kansas City only at the moment.
Would be great if they would release it here in Holland.
I have 50Mbps Down and 5Mbps Up here on Portugal, it’s enough for now. I’m not sure, but I think that here on Portugal we also have 1Gbps available in some areas, I’m not sure.

The big issue to make it relevant for remote working is for the upload speed to be equally fast. I sometimes need to shift a couple of gigs around for a job. (up and download). Some jobs could do with moving a terabyte of data over the web, but that’s just in fantasy land at the moment.
Although If the upload were 25% of the download, you could shift 1TB in about 8-10 hours.
What’s the upload speed likely to be for Google fiber?

Its a Gb/s each way.
Edit: A bit more info for you. Google will use a SDSL type connection (meaning you will have the same upload speed as download). Where usually, unless you pay for it you get a ADSL connection meaning you get slower uploads.
