hi – I’ve bought dozens of great tracks here over the years, thanks to everyone who produces them…. I check back and listen in daily for new tracks to buy

quick feedback: one thing that I’d encourage you to test, is having stronger/deeper kick drum sounds with bass in the trance/dance/hip hop tracks… (like 808 w/reverb)... some have decent bass + kicks/toms, but many seem too light… personally I like many with deep heavy type kick/bass stuff like you’d hear in a nightclub, which would sell better… and 135 bpm for trance, 95-115bpm for hip hop… maybe get inspiration from top selling top-40 songs being played in clubs

just a thought.. :) thanks all

+1 … i allways try my best. Sometimes it’s hard for producers with a small studio and no subwoofer, to have a great bass sound. In my opinion, bass is the hardest thing to find the right mixture between deep, but still crisp. It often tends to be muddy if you go to deep and need 135 bpm, because the sub needs enough time for the sustain from kick to kick. I hope i did not sound to weird… hard to describe in english :)

Thank you for your hint !

You’re right. It’s difficult. I make Dubstep, mostly, and it’s not often I get to hear it on a proper system, so I seldom get to hear my 40Hz lows… :(

But metering is a brilliant tool for a small studio. I use a lot of metering to examine the low end. I also like to clear any unnecessary bass from everything except my bass and kick. This gives space, and actually can result in a bassier mix.

Having said that, I’ve made some spectacular bass errors in my time… ;)

The low frequency treatment can also be in the metal genre a tricky thing! It’s a challenge from time to time to make a proper mix on small monitors (without any subwoofer) if you have to handle drop tuned heavily distorted guitars, bass guitars and kickdrum that has to be heard in the mix somehow. Some are happy with triggering the kick, I always try to EQ it out. It works but it’s hard sometimes if you have one or two kick signals vs. 5 or 6 angry guit. and bass signals that fight in the same low frequency mud…

This makes me curious to as how many AudioJungle customers will actually have the equipment that can accurately reproduce bass down into the 20-90hz range.

I’ve been experimenting around with dubstep lately and when I use my headphones I can’t really hear the sub-bass all that well (which is kind of in the 35-70hz range). When I play the same mix on my monitors the sub-bass really pops out. On lesser systems, or most headphones, the kick drum and mid bass would be the lowest thing you’d hear, and since I EQ out below 100hz or so on the kicks (to make room for the sub-bass) they really can’t be deep. I think that is why most dubstep kicks seem to go for a punchy sound.

I don’t really make house/hip-hop styled tracks, but its good to know that customers want the full range deep kicks!

I think we should keep in mind ( at least for those producing music to be plaid in clubs ), that there they have subwoofers going often down to 20hz, if you’re not aware, that your track have some mudd down there…then you’re f* :) when playing a set and all you can hear is pfckrtpfpfpfklonk :P

My monitoring chain right now is a pair of Behringer B2031P , a B2092A subwoofer and a DBX 223XL x-over. The B2092A is a 73lb. active reference sub that Behringer made for a while and wow does it sound good in that setup. Doesn’t go too far into the 20’s range but it’s very competent. The addition of the subwoofer has made literally a world of difference for me in terms of mixing capability.

Agree with Josh, recently attached a sub to my BX8a and my eyes were opened, I mean ears. Huge difference in mixing with or without the sub…
