It’s long past time I do this. A long time ago I made a method for CSS only fullscreen flash with minimum scrolling dimensions that seemingly works all the way back to IE6 . The article is here (the demo link to actually test is on the page, but the direct link is here.

The thing is, I only have so many computers/browsers/OSs to test it on, so even I still use swffit to do this job because I only 99% trust my method because it’s not as thoroughly tested.

So I’m hoping people here can get over there and test the living heck out of it and finally put the issue to rest: can I start using this mainstream or do I still need swffit to do this junk?

Please let me know any details of where it does/doesn’t work for you. Thanks a bunch!

Nothing. But when 11 lines of CSS can do just as good then that’s way better than relying on a javascript code package. Not to mention this way is considerably lighter in size than using swffit.

Of course swffit has some other features as well, so don’t throw it away. But, 99% of people using it use it to accomplish this one thing, which now can be done CSS only.

I used a similar IE hack for a few templates in the past but removed it from most because I encountered problems on IE when users were in “zoom” mode. Meaning when the user increases the text size by pressing CTRL + and then visits the site afterward it ended up causing problems. I remember confirming this bug a while back but can’t remember where it was happening (6, 7 or 8 ).

Interesting, thanks for that info. Personally I’d say that’s an acceptable problem nowadays since it’s only present in an older version if IE and only under certain conditions. But I see how not all would agree with that. An important thing to keep in mind though :)

Hate to reopen my own 9 day old thread, but I just actually realized that my sites using swffit are screwy in IE9 . Swffit doesn’t properly support it and shows a bit of space below the swf and always has a vertical scrollbar that scrolls a pixel or two. I changed to my CSS method and the problem went away…so I guess there actually is something wrong with using swffit.
