Hello everyone!

I am new here. Learning… I´ve been looking for the answer around the forum but I didnt find it thats why Im posting this here. I also tried to submit a ticket but it didnt work. The fact is that Im working on premiere on a MacBookPro Core i7 Tutorial suggest to compress the main big file on Quicktime H264 format. My premiere doesnt let me do HD things a Quick time by default, I changed parameters but the resulting quality is quite bad. I just want to upload my material any advice?

Thanks to all!!

I’m not too familiar with Premiere, so I couldn’t say.

But I personally very rarely compress QT h.264 from inside an editing / VFX application. I output an uncompressed file and then use a dedicated compressor to do it.

You may have Adobe Media Encoder as part of your Premiere / Creative Suite install.

If not, there are plenty of free applications for PC which can encode h.264. (They’ll usually call it an mp4, but then you can just open it in Quicktime and save it as a mov. It’s the same thing, just in a different wrapper). Edit: Just noticed… you’re not on a PC. There aren’t many free ones for Mac, so use QT Pro or Adobe Media Encoder.

For $29.99 you can even buy Quicktime Pro 7 and use that to compress into h.264 format. It does it rather well too.

Compressor – part of Final Cut Suite… but just out of habit really. I find that all adobe compressors limit you to standard multiple of 4 block sizes with h.264, but Compressor doesn’t… not sure how or why, but it’s very useful. Otherwise, it’s a bit on the slow side.

Wow this is a real fastworking forum!! THANKS !!!

Well Im using Premiere Pro CS4 and that was a great idea to render high uncompressed thing and then pass it on Quicktime. I didnt have the time to try but I will and let you know.

On the other hand, Adobe Media Encoder has a defult NTSCDV or PAL DV for QuickTime :( is like they are trapped on time or something.

I will check the double render and let you know.

Cheers! and Thanks!!

PS: Is this Compressor a free software?

I just had a look at AME CS4 though and did a test. You can compress the format that you’re after by either choosing h.264, then changing the file extension manually from .mp4 to .mov, or by choosing Quicktime, selecting DV Pal and then changing the compression codec manually to h.264. You’ll need to play around with the options for both to find the optimal bit rate etc. You will most likely be dealing with progressive footage, so if you’re given the option to interpret fields, turn this off… and make sure your pixel aspect ratio is set to square.

Both tests were very successful and produced good looking results. The default bit rate / quality settings produced rather big files, but a bit of trial and error will sort that out. I’d opt for the h.264 version and then change the extension as it offers a 2-pass VBR encoding which will optimize the bitrate even further for you.

Awesome! I tried compressing everything in best quality as I usualy do and exported it as mp4 finally. As you recommended me I change the extention manually and put .mov It was perfect but when I render it as square pixels (my original footage was 16:9) a black borders appeard naturally. So following your advice I left it like this. I hope is ok. I still had a little problem about what a MAIN FILE is. I put everything on the zip file except the .flv but I dont understand why should I do this if the web form allow me to choose which file is for what. Anyway, I had submitted it and see what happens. I will become author for sure, now we are on process of learning.

Cheers! and many thanks for your fast and effective support.
