that would be abused.

also, if say top search = slider, you’ll see 200 new slider submissions a week later.

maybe it doesn’t have to be interpreted as a simple tag list, but maybe a person from the Envato team (one of the marketplace managers?) could review that list (available only to staff members) and then compile a list of “trends” once a week, or once in two weeks…?

that way users/authors can’t abuse the system with tags stuffing, but we get valuable info to develop our portfolios in the right direction ;)

+1 for weekly trends.

Probably would just be better for Envato to make an analysis of top search terms and cross-reference that with an analysis of words found in titles, tags and item descriptions. So Envato would manually associate popular search terms with the words that are close or related in meaning to the top words that are used by authors in describing their items. This way the search function would be improved and you wouldn’t have to worry (as much) about abuse.

I like the idea of a weekly or fortnightly Trends list, but I feel the most helpful for buyers (which ultimately would benefit sellers) would be the idea that was previously posted about – ‘files / design styles that buyers are searching for that are not yet available on the market place’. Even if it was generalised so that ‘keyword spamming’ is difficult.

I guess this is a similar thing to the Trends idea but with the idea of filling out the market place with every sector of product buyers are looking for… increasing buyers returning to the marketplace and of course new buyers becoming ‘engaged’.

I would love to see an implementation of both ‘top trends’ and ‘more files needed to fill demand’ whilst maintaining keyword integrity. :)

My thought is that these marketplaces seem to be set up in a ‘long tail’ model. So that even in the fringes of trends there is a wide representation; nearly as wide as the actual demographic of buyers. Zoom out from author to owner and that would be one disadvantage of this idea.

Unless Top Listings cost $$$ per search returned.

In a system like Envato has, it will cause a great amount of distress amongst new users and those who cannot afford to pay $$$ for top listing.

Just use proper title and tags and customers searching your file will find it without beeing flooded with unwanted files that uses tags just because it is the best search term.

You’ve completely misunderstood the idea. It has nothing to do with using proper title/tags. It’s about what type of themes users want.

It doesn’t matter if I create a nice gaming template and title/tag it properly. I want to know if too many buyers search for i.e. “music store template”, so that I can create one. “Customers searching your file” won’t find it, because none such exists.

also, if say top search = slider, you’ll see 200 new slider submissions a week later.

I’d say users would rather search for “no slider, please”. ;)
