Some kinds of files – motion graphic toolkits, for instance, or effect and preset files are not served particularly well by the current licensing system.

Suppose you buy a motion graphic item that consists of 100 HUD elements, because you want to use 3 of them in a project. That’s 97 unused elements and it seems silly to expect a customer to pay again to use a different 3 elements from the item in a different project.

Maybe for these “toolkits” a higher price and “pay once – use for ever” might be a better type of licence. If the user produces a “toolkit” type of item, he/she could request that it be published under this new licence in the upload form, and the reviewer could have final say.

At the moment though, the standard licence for these elements seems to defy logic and possibly undermines the idea of the licence as it is, since these projects are clearly designed to be used multiple times.

this makes sense. there are a lot of packages of digital goods sold on internet that you buy once, use forever. Maybe provide the authors with a new category of files that behaves like one time purchase.

Like “100 animated infographics elements” for just 89$

+1 overall the licensing is too restrictive anyways; other sites that sell ae templates don’t restrict usage to single projects, which is a big minus here imho; at least open it up to 2-3 projects per purchase, for individual companies’ projects (unless used for client projects, in which case single-project usage would make more sense)

In my opinion, I feel most people just purchase the regular license (templates, motion graphics, etc) and use it over and over again anyhow (just like an extended license), because we don’t know who are our buyers and what they are using it for. They could be using the same template for different things over and over again, even if they only have a regular license, and we won’t be able to find out, especially for those files who have many purchases. I think it would be better just to offer a license with a higher price which allows a few (3~5?) uses or perhaps unlimited use, instead of a one-use regular license.

Besides, I feel that the quality of the files here on VideoHive currently deserve a raise in price :P

Actually, I think that the per-project licensing is excellent as it is for most Ae project items, and this is an important factor in keeping the price low. Those who make a living customizing templates might see that as a kind of carte-blanche.

I’m literally just talking about those files that are clearly intended for re-use, perhaps coupled with a somewhat higher price tag.

I would guess that most people only use a file once (unless it’s a business).

I would imagine that anyone who is working on a project with any degree of professionality is going to want to make sure that any rights/licensing issues are absolutely in order. If I buy a footage file for a client’s job that I’m working on, then if there’s any possibility that the work might be resold in the future, then I need to get an extended licence to cover my bases. That could come back on me.

I think for a company, the fact of having your copyrights sorted is much more important than saving $25 here or there. Although it’s unlikely to ever happen, the more high profile the job, the bigger the chances and the more it could end up costing… not just in money, but in bad publicity.

guys there are no +1 or -1 it has to be implemented and thats it. Now many items cannot function normaly in copyright perspective without a separate license. VH has to deal with it.
