@cyzer Efficient cameras are tailored up with lots of other factors. What sort of final medium that you will be going for eg: Youtube, Big screen or Broadcast.
Of course, the better the camera the better the output is gonna be. Yet, if it is going to youtube or vimeo, there is no any significant point that you should go for RED , ARRI Alexa or other expensive cameras.
You shall get that equivalent result in via 5D itself. Video Comparison here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=extLzdVWCns
Speaking about lenses: Definitely film lenses are costly, prime lenses do good for the price, you get that shallow depth of field that you are looking for.
Apart from depth of field there is a lot to make your digital as a film, like adding smoke, gobos, follow focus, cinematic lighting, rig. dollies and etc etc etc… Alright, i have said much.
Tips on making your digital footage to look like film, read this post : http://www.lavideofilmmaker.com/dv-film-look/how-to-make-digital-video-look-like-film.html (Y din’t i think of this before?)
Finally, I would say, a proper and professional DSLR Rig is a very essential one with experienced focus puller to just get that filmy look.
All that is said above are just what i would i do. Hope it helps.![]()
Thanks for pointing out the final output differences, the links are really useful especially 5d vs red….
