That would be great if there is a mobo that supports dual 3930k and there isn’t one…not yet. Asus, EVGA and few others have motherboards with dual cpu sockets but you will need server cpus (Xeon) on those boards. Server CPUs can communicate with each other while mainstream ones can’t, that is the problem.

But 2×3930k would be awesome if it was possible :)

All the best.

Creattive made quite a powerhouse workstation few posts ago, I agree with him on most of the parts.

You will want to go with x79 motherboard (2011 socket) if you wish to have 64gb of memory. For the cpu I will buy i7-3930k (6c/12t), it is half the price but almost the same performance compared to the i7-3970x, plus it is made to be overclocked so you can get some serious power out of that thing.

SSD storage is a must, one for OS and software you will use and another one for AE caching. You can get few HDDs for storage, choose the capacity you need.

Don’t forget good cooling (air cooling / water cooling – your choice), especially if you plan to overclock. Since your machine is going to work for the good part of the day a quality case with good airflow is essential. Machine will be running quiet and cold.

Regarding the display, you can get this for ex. http://goo.gl/2cpUY – with this display you will have 2560×1600 resolution and accurate color reproduction. And it is a matte screen, pretty important thing if you ask me.

There is also a possibility to get a motherboard with two CPU sockets and if you chose to go that way you will be at your 4K mark.

All the best.

Hey guys,

Why would you guys buy almost 3 year old CPU, a discontinued product, when you can get better one for half the price?

Are you doing some heavy rendering (archViz, 3d product visualization,...) with GPU rendering engines such as Octane for example? Because I don’t see a point on spending 2000 euros on a dual GPU solution. You should know that previous version of nVidia’s cards (5th series models – Fermi architecture) had much better GPGPU performance than 6th series cards.

Have you considered some good quality display? Quality display is FAR MORE important thing to pay attention than your GPU in my opinion. Since you are into editing you will want to have a professional display with accurate color reproduction.

Also good audio card is a must if you will be doing some sound production.

Spending money just to spend it is silly :)

Focus all your efforts into making quality project. It really doesn’t matter when you upload as long there is a demand for the type of project you uploaded. Many times I have witnessed files that were uploaded on Saturday afternoon and by Sunday they were in Top Sellers, so yeah…

Transfer all your worries into constructive thinking for the next project :)

All the best.

p.s.

Maybe I’m right or maybe I’m just comforting myself because I am uploading something in a few moments :D Time will tell. Good luck to both of us :)
